The most common way is to use a Simple Multimedia or an Audubon Media Description extension.
from dwc-qa.
Darwin Core does not support the transfer of digital media, but it does support the metadata for those media and the capacity to point to them in web-accessible locations. The simplest and most limited method is to populate the Darwin Core term associatedMedia with a list of URIs to the media online. This does not allow any additional metadata (such as license) about the photos to be shared.
As @cgendreau pointed out, there are two Darwin Core extensions for this. The Simple Multimedia extension is simpler and based almost entirely on Dublin Core terms, while the Audubon Media Description extension is richer in metadata and is the only media extension recommended by iDigBio.
