For information, some 'Event based' datasets have been published as OccurrenceCore in the past.

Note that the document Publishing sample data using the GBIF IPT states that five of the terms (parentEventID, sampleSizeValue, sampleSizeUnit, organismQuantity, organismQuantityType) are in the proposed state. All of these terms have since been ratified as part of Darwin Core as of 2015-03-19 (see http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/terms/history/decisions/index.htm#Decision-2015-03-19_18).

Can anyone at GBIF comment on who is using the Event Core? Is there a way to discover data sets based on the Event Core?
