n8n-pi's Issues

Is this project still alive?

I just found this and start to get atention on n8n recenly. Is this project still updated to the newest relese of n8n?

and can i use RPi Zero to start?

Update n8n

First of all; really cool how you created this easy way of deploying n8n on a raspberry pi.

Probably not an issue but more about some information (and request) I couldn't find info about. My question: How to update the n8n version manually? Or are you going to automate deployment of new updates for the n8n-pi repo and the image? And how to update when there is a newer image available without losing all my workflows?

Thank you in advance.

Ignore this, saw your post on your website: http://n8n-pi.tephlon.xyz/#/Other?id=automated-image-builder-aib

Mention that this script isn't suited to add n8n to an existing raspberry pi setup

Hi,

The readme and according web page for this script mention that you can run this script on a pi with raspbian. It does not mention (clearly, like this should be a huge warning at the beginning of the article):

  • That it will remove the pi user
  • That it will remove the pi user home directory
  • That it will try and replace the hostname
  • That it will ruin the hostname (if you have docker set up, there are a lot of IPs being printed out)
  • If you have ssh set-up with ssh keys, you would even risk becoming locked out if you accidentally delete the pi user.

Basically, this script should only be ran on completely empty pi's, and should not be used to try and install n8n on an existing pi with running services. A big warning on the first script (why wait until the second script to say hey, your pi user will be removed) should do, or if the goal is to be able to run the script on existing setups, the following changes are needed:

  • deleting the pi user should be optional. There is no reason to force this.
  • changing the hostname should be optional. The suggested value should be the current hostname
  • changing the motd should be optional.

As I mentioned, instead of changing things, this could simply be mentioned in the beginning to make users aware, so they know it should only be ran on a clean install. Especially since I've seen official n8n issues link to this repo.

Regards,
