Contrary to previous versions, 8.0.0 doesn't allow to open directly a .srt file through the Finder and the Dock. This includes:
The only way to open a subtitle file is to launch Jubler first, then to open it from the app.
My MacOS version is 14.3.
Hello.
In the software Wiki, it says that this software can "Clear areas used for hearing impaired".
However, there is no option for finding hearing impaired lines and removing them! I have to manually find them and remove them one by one.
Why is this feature mentioned in the wiki when it is not actually there ??? I wasted a good 10minute trying to do this automatically like it is implied from the wiki, without results.
Of course, thanks for the developers. But please remove this feature from the wiki as it is simply not there.
Hello teras.
Jubler hangs (crashes) when I go File -> Open. I did uncheck the "JDK" option during install.
Windows 10, Oracle JDK 1.8.0_181
Reproduction steps:
OS: Mac 10.14.4
Jubler version: 6.0.pre6
Dear teras, following a series of suggestion to improve Jubler's usability.
====================================
If
two adjacent subtitles respect ALL the following conditions:
Then
those two should be highlighted with a color that's different than the other possible ones,
so the user can immediately check them and consider whether to merge them or not.
If subtitle 1 could be merged to 2, and 2 could be merged to 3,
then subtitles 1,2 and 3 should all be highlighted.
====================================
And that's it. Keep up the fantastic work :)

the 7.03 class version 58 not 52, can't run with java 1.8
in project say java 1.8, but not, please check
The error message "FFDecode Library inactive..." is displayed with a demo image instead of the movie still.
Configuration : macOS 10.15.4

Jubler doesn't give option to edit the Name
field of dialogues. But if an ASS file which has values for Name
field is opened in Jubler, those values are stripped when Jubler saves the file.
Steps to reproduce
Name
field in another editor e.g. AegiSub bob alice aegisub.ass.txtName
field are lost.Even if Jubler doesn't support this field, it must be preserved when editing a file to ensure compatibility with other editors. The Name field is useful for working with dialogues.
Hi,
what about to make flatpak build and upload it to Flathub for easy Linux installation?
Feature request: add support for drtic subtitles (.dtc extension).

Further information can be found here:
Youtube seems to have dropped the ability to download a video's subtitles as an srt and now only offers their own sbv.
I've used Jubler to stripout the timecode info for creating a text script.
The workaround is to convert the sbv to srt here: https://gotranscript.com/subtitle-converter, then using Jubler.
Seems like an easily fix to add sbv support.
Thanks for creating this useful program.
When I right click on a .srt file and choose 'Open with' Jubler, it
doesn't open Jubler at all.
It also doesn't start if I run C:\Program Files\Jubler\Jubler.exe from
the command line.
It only works if I run java -jar C:\Program Files\Jubler\lib\jubler.jar
I'm using Window 7 64bit, java 1.8.0_221, and Jubler 6.0.2
The ouptut from 'java -jar jubler.jar' is:

According the website the program is written in Java 1.5.0.
It is open source under a liberal (GNU) public license. It is written in Java 5.0 (a.k.a. Java 1.5.0) in order to be really multi-platform. It has been tested under Linux, Windows XP and Mac OS X.
But even if I have Java 1.8 (Version 8 Update 381) on my Windows 11 Pro it doesn't run:
Error: A JNI error has occurred, please check your installation and try again

Oracle Docs says that Java 1.5 is class version 49, but we see that program has class version 58 (Java 14).
Since the v7.0.3 there's no "subtitle.icns" and it's association. I don't know if it's an issue or it's deliberate.
Thanks for the program!!!!! Cheers!
When I click on "Play current subtitle" on Arch Linux, I do not hear the full subtitle (unless it is short). A .wav file is created in /tmp with the full audio for the subtitle. It is not deleted. This is the case for all versions of Java.
On Fedora Linux, the subtitle is played, a .wav file is created in /tmp and then deleted after the subtitle has played. Nothing wrong, no problem.
No significant difference in terminal output on Arch or Fedora when running Jubler from terminal.
Any ideas, please? No response to my post on Arch forum.
Following problem shows up with the Windows 64 bit version: "FFDecode library not active. Using demo image." No Waveform preview is generated and no video preview. The Windows 32 bit version doesn't have this problem.
Hello, I'm not very familiar with the inner workings of various subtitle formats, but have come across a few .sub files that have a text formatting markup in this style:
{483}{531}{y:i}* But we made it through *
(The asterisks are part of the displayed line, according to how mpv is treating this)
Jubler doesn't recognise the markup and considers it part of the line to be displayed. Saving the subtitle into srt (my primary use case, as MKV-merge doesn't support sub) in Jubler results in this:
6
00:00:20,145 --> 00:00:22,147
{y:i}* But we made it through *
mpv just ignores this and displays the line with default type.
When converting with ffmpeg, the line is converted to this:
5
00:00:19,320 --> 00:00:21,240
<i>* But we made it through *</i>
This displays in italics, as it does with the original sub file.
Maybe you could add a possibility to use speech2text services like the following into Jubler, to allow for machine based auto-transcription.
Γέια σου,
using the generic binary distribution on Linux, when I run the tool, the localized gui was not working: Unable to locate language cs
, although it is in the i18n folder.
I suspected that it was related to the paths, so I tried to move the jubler script file into the lib folder and modified the line to: java -jar jubler.jar
, and now it works.
I am not sure why is this happening and whether you would do something with that, but I just wanted to let you know.
Ευχαριστώ
Hello, in macOS 10.14.6 in the 7.0.0 version the custom keyboard shortcuts are not working.
I can create custom shortcuts in system preferences which are visible in the menu of Jubler, but they don't work. They are working in version 6.
Thanks!
Thank you very much for the program distributed under a free open license! Added a program to a Russian-language site about free software, here is the link.
Please do not drop the project, this is a very interesting program!
Καλησπέρα,
Is it possible to have some build instructions for macos or at least an executable that runs on 10.13.6 (high sierra)? Not everyone has upgraded to the latest macos and the alpha release needs a bit of manual work to get compiled and then the generated jar doesn't start (something about input != null). It'll be great if we had instructions to create the .app file.
Jubler starts with an JRELoadError dialog.
I'm running macOS 10.14.6
java -version
openjdk version "12.0.2" 2019-07-16
OpenJDK Runtime Environment AdoptOpenJDK (build 12.0.2+10)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM AdoptOpenJDK (build 12.0.2+10, mixed mode, sharing)
Is there an issue with the AdoptOpenJDK implementation?
Hi,
After upgrading 7 alpha to 7, my MPlayer Extended rev16 (1610) stopped to smoothly work. When trying to play movie from editor, Jubler suddenly exits leaving no message whatsoever. It keeps doing this as long as I separately launch MPlayer. I am not quite sure of the details, but pre-launching in some way MPlayer is certainly seems to be a prerequisite to be able to work later from editor.
As the title says, I can't save a modified subtitle on Windows.
When I double clic a subtitle file in windows explorer, it opens on Jubler, I do a modification, but when saving I get a message that the .srt file is unwritable. Obviously the file is not open by another app. I can also open Jubler from start menu, manualy open the sub, modify it and then I get the same error. I have to Save as.. to save as a new subtitle.
Can anyone test?
video is playing normally in the Mplayer but it's a separate window which is very inconvenient, and it's playing on 1fps in the jubler app, which is useless.
I'm on an M1 MacBook Air; MacOS Ventura 13.4
I'll try XQuartz and give updates
Would it be possible to have an AppImage that starts Jubler using the sun.java2d.uiScale variable:
#!/bin/sh
cd `dirname $0`
java -Dsun.java2d.uiScale=2 -jar lib/jubler.jar
This works fine on OpenJDK 11 (but not OpenJDK 8) for the Generic Java version (but the FFDecode library is not active).
There seems to be an audio lag using xpra and run_scaled, and the only other alternative I've found on Gnome on Fedora 30 is to reduce my screen resolution to 1080 when using Jubler.
[Not sure this is an issue on KDE – I don't currently have it installed. Doesn't seem to be an issue on Gnome on Ubuntu.]
I have been using Jubler a lot for many years (many thanks for this program), and there are three small things I'd like to have:
hey @teras - I've noticed that the code signature has changed in the latest macOS release (https://github.com/teras/Jubler/releases/download/v8.0.0/Jubler-8.0.0.dmg)
EXPECTED 'Panayotis Katsaloulis (FFH43J7NR5)'
FOUND 'Greek Universities Network (2EPBLQ4224)'
can you confirm this? thanks!
Hello, good afternoon, I have downloaded the latest version of the Jubler program for 64-bit Windows, I have installed it and when I open it it does not open, I have tried downloading the 32-bit version but the same thing also happens.
The operating system I have is Windows 11 x64 bits.
