The link position:relative is for visual feedback of a link being pressed (the link moves down 1px on click), quite a commonly used technique. I'll investigate the ie7 issues though and see if I can replicate what you're getting.

I'm having trouble replicating this bug you had. That might be because I'm testing using IE9 in IE7 mode, not using native IE7. I'll try native IE8 which I do have on one of my computers and see if I can see this bug on that instead.

Not seeing this issue in IE8 either. I need more IE7 users to confirm the bug.
