This project follows the all-contributors specification. Contributions of any kind welcome!

Contributing

Pull requests, please! Our show notes are lovingly crafted by humans, but they're nowhere near perfect. Specific things we'd love help with:

  • Fixing broken links
  • Adding links to referenced URLs, projects, etc.
  • Fixing typos

Why contributing is worth your time

  1. Once merged, your contribution will immediately (pending webhook execution) appear on the episode page for all to use/enjoy!
  2. We routinely send thank you's on the air and on Twitter!
  3. Give back to the awesome Changelog Community of hackers, podcast hosts, and guests!

Conventions

Directory structure and file names

Parsed and html-ized versions of these show notes live on Changelog.com alongside their respective episode, which is accomplished by following this naming convention:

[podcast-slug]/[hyphenized-podcast-name]-[episode-slug].md

For example, the episode that lives at: https://changelog.com/rfc/13

Has its show notes in this repo at: rfc/request-for-commits-13.md

Text formatting

Our show notes are authored good ole' Markdown. That means you can add *s or _s for emphasis, [links](https://changelog.com) to referenced people/projects, etc. We especially encourage addition of links. These make the notes much more useful to readers and provide valuable SEO juice to the link-worthy things we discuss on our shows.

Guidelines

  • Frequently our show notes are prepared before recording and sometimes prepared links don't make it into the show for one or another reason. If you happen to notice one of these zombie links our policy is to remove them.

  • Occasionally links for streaming content stop working because of media copyright issues. We also want to get rid of those.

Conduct

Contributor Code of Conduct. By participating in this project you agree to abide by its terms.

show-notes's Issues

Policy regarding show note items

Many times the show notes are prepared prior to recording
and sometimes prepared links don't get mentioned in the show for one or another reason.

What's our policy regarding these links. Should we scratch them so that the show notes only reflect items mentioned during the show or leave them in anyway.

eg. the GoTimeFM team sometimes prepares links to interesting projects that don't make it into the show due to lack of recording time.

JS Party #287 β€” Val Town’s use of β€œwere” is correct

I no longer use any of the other social media platforms you folks inhabit, so I have to mention this here.

I’m listening to JS Party #287, β€œTake me to Val Town.” About two-and-a-half minutes into the episode, Amal teased Val Town’s Steve Krouse about the use of β€œwere” next to a singular item (β€œAWS Lambda”) in the Val Town website’s headline. However, Val Town is correct in using β€œwere” in this case because it’s an β€œunreal conditional.”

For example: if I go outside on an extremely hot day and walk barefooted on the sidewalk, I could correctly say, β€œIf this sidewalk were air-conditioned, my feet wouldn’t be hurting right now.”

chore: missing links in Don't make things worse episode

The last two Youtube links in the show notes for this episode link to youtube.com/watch instead of the Youtube videos referenced by the links. I believe the links should be:

Happy to send a PR if we can agree on what to link to.

Broken link

podcast/the-changelog-368.md

The FindCollabs link no longer works

Misspelling in Typesense sponsore

Not sure if this is a good place to report this, but I think there may be a typo in the Typesense Ad for the past couple episodes of Go Time.

Typesense – Lightning fast, globally distributed Search-as-a-Service that runs in memory. You iterlly can’t get any faster

Should iterly be literally? Maybe it’s a pun that I don’t get, but I thought I’d mention it just in case.
