Questions about updated config.plist (Generic section and EDID Patch)

Hi,

first of all, thanks a lot for this awesome setup, it's working really well on my XPS and without your repo I most definitely wouldn't be running macOS on it since it just takes so much time figuring out what exactly to tweak where to make things work.

With the latest update I noticed two things changed and I wasn't really sure on how to proceed with them, maybe you can help me here:

• In 1d500b8 you removed the Generic section from the config with things like Serial and UUID, does this need to be added again by the user or is this now somehow automatically generated by OpenCore?
• In bea58ac you added an EDID under PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0) with #AAPL00,override-no-connect - does this mean the EDID patch is now required again? Do we need to replace this with our own EDID or should it be the same for all XPS 9500 4K models?

Frequent WIFI disconnect and question about USB Map

Hi @thefiredragon

Thanks a lot for this config and setup.

After the installation, most of the items are working as expected. However, my Wi-Fi is frequently getting disconnected. Sometime its stable but other times it drops and reconnects frequently. I'm planning to get a USB Wi-Fi adapter to test.

Also, I've enabled the XhciPortLimit settings in config.plist. Should I follow the USB map guide from https://dortania.github.io/.

Thunderbolt with HDMI

Notice that the working list does indicate if Thunderbolt with HDMI is working.

Thought I would ask if the feature works before building.

My current Catalina build is based of Zachs78 and Thunderbolt does not work and the system crashes when the cable is removed.

Battery Status Bug

The battery's status can't update when:

1. the adapter from on to off or from off to on
2. when the adapter is off the battery's value stop at 100%

Bad battery life

I installed your EFI (Big Sur version) but the battery life is quite bad. Only 1:30hrs max. I've tried quite a lot but couldn't fix it. It also happens on all other 9500 EFI's I could find.

I think it has something to do with the chipset as it can get quite hot while running mac os. Everything else (e.g. the CPU) behaves normally.

Overheating on Monterey

After upgrading to Monterey from Big Sur, the surface temperature has consistently been incredibly high, fans constantly spinning at maximum speed, even after I have the cool or quiet option setup in BIOS and had CPU bursting turned off. It is basically unusable for anything, and I now have to do my works on Linux instead. Is anyone having the same issue? Any idea about this?

Bought 970 evo plus, bought another xpg 8200 pro. Remove the micron ssd.
I generated smbios the only change I made on config.plist
Change sata to ACHI
I cfg unlock and verify it says unlock
My config is i7-10750H, 16gb ram 4k touch 15 inch

I booted with your efi after loading mac logo, there is only arrow and grey background, I enable apple debug and applepanic and it shows a UI of macos installation cannot be completed.
Same as zach and thewaterdragon efi.

But did update my bios before I was trying to make a hackintosh

Gray screen with mouse pointer - language dialog not shown

Got a copy of this repo and:

1. Disabled the right items in the BIOS.
2. Added the NVRAM > Platform Info > Generic section with the GenSMBIOS serials.
3. Disabled CFGLock.

But was stuck on a gray screen with a moving mouse pointer.

Based on a discussion thread online I figured out that the installer was stuck before the language selection dialog. The issue is that NVRAM > 7C436110-AB2A-4BBB-A880-FE41995C9F82 > prev-lang:kbd needs to be changed from string to data. Once that's done the language selection dialog is shown and the installer is unstuck.

Can you make this change in the repo? Sometimes ProperTree will not update the data type on save, so it may need to be done manually with a text editor like SublimeText.

Dortania says either data or string is ok, but in my experience only data works. Other repos for MacOS-XPS-9500 use data.

Lastly, thank you for your excellent work in putting together this repo. It's the only one compatible with BigSur and it's a huge time saver.

WiFi stop working after 13112021

The built-in disk is not recognized

Wi-Fi not working at all

Zach's with Catalina works fine, in installer and system

But this one doesn't work for Wi-Fi (at least for me) either the installer and the system once installed with some manipulations.

Upward speakers not working, muffled sound

Do you have any solution to this now?

Keyboard issue: cmd + 1 = s, cmd + 2 = d, cmd + 3 = f, cmd + 4 = g

As in the title, after I upgrade to Big Sur using this repo, I have problems with keyboard

I found out that I can't take screenshot with cmd + shift + 3, and then when I am in a textarea, cmd + shift + 3 types an F (just did it)

I tried to connect a usb keyboard and the combination works fine, taking screenshot instead of typing F

If anyone has any clue on how to solve this, it would be great

Sometimes the trackpad stutter/lag

The trackpad works fine 90% of the time, but randomly starts stuttering and lagging for a few seconds.
Very annoyng :((

Non 4k display

I'm having problems with the EFI and wondering if it's to do with the display. I've created the installer usb and I get the Apple logo but then a screen flicker and black screen. Which version of open core is this using?

4 speakers and headphone jack

How can we enable 4 speaker and fix headphone jack ?? My laptop just can use 2 speaker and cant use headphone jack

EDID patch not needed now

With Whatevergreen v1.4.6, adding -igfxblr and -igfxmpc boot arguments solve the problem. Big Sur can now run in 4K@60Hz. See the change log here.

Bluetooth mouse

I haven't tested your EFI but there is a compatability issue with bluetooth 4.x devices with apparently every hackintosh installed on the XPS 15 9500: OpenIntelWireless/IntelBluetoothFirmware#51

Can you confirm you have this problem too?

EDID patch black screen Catalina

I've tried this patch but when I boot macOS Catalina (10.15.7), it results in a black screen (but macOS is alive still I can hear sounds when I presse some keys.

Recovery mode not working.

I try using the boot menu to boot into recovery mode. it booted through the apple logo screen then to the grey screen where the cursor is working but nothing else is loaded. any idea?

eGPU not working

eGPU doesn't seem to be working or being recognized when plugin or plugin before boot. TB security has been disabled.
The eGPU unit does power on when plugged in, and power delivery is working from the eGPU unit.
eGPU unit:
GPU-550W-TB3 - Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box with 550W Power Supply
GPU in the unit:
AMD Radeon Pro W5500

Stopped after 1st apple logo

Thanks so far for sharing. As said in title I tried to install on 9500 4K i7 10750. Beside 1TB HD a 970 EVO is installed. Installation from zachs78 (Catalina) worked so far, exept card reader and touchscreen.

Any hints?

Headphone Jack fix

I've just finished installing your EFI, and after changing a few things to get it running on a non-4K XPS 15 I got it almost fully working. One of the only things left to fix is the headphones jack not working (giving corrupt sound.) It gave me the same issue on Catalina and I thought updating os would fix the problem, but it's still present.

Do you also have the same issue or did you manage to find a fix for it?

P.S: I tried using ComboJack but apparently the original version is not compatible with big sur and the modified ones just don't seem to do much

Crash after the first Restart of the installation

Hello,

first of all, I'm a complete newby in installing a hackintosh system and sorry for my bad english.
My issue is, when I installing Big Sur on my XPS 15 9500 (64gb ram, 512gb nvme, i7 10750h) everything goes well, I can choose the nvme to install on it etc., but on the first restart, it didn't go on and show me the opencore menu with the options of the beginning of the installation: installing big sur and nvram reset and than crashes with showing this screen:
