Error pthread_t unrecognized

I am trying to compile pthreads-win32 for WinCE with VS 2008. I have been following the WinCE instructions and have included the following preprocessor definitions for pthreads-win32:

PTW32_BUILD
NEED_ERRNO
NEED_CALLOC
NEED_CREATETHREAD
NEED_DUPLICATEHANDLE
NEED_FTIME
NEED_SEM
TLS_OUT_OF_INDEXES
NEED_PROCESS_AFFINITY_MASK

Currently I have one error:
pthreads\errno.c(87) : error C2223: left of '->exitStatus' must point to struct/union

Left of ->exitStatus is a variable self of type pthread_t.

pthread_t is a typedef in pthread.h:
typedef ptw32_handle_t pthread_t;

Where ptw32_handle_t is defined as

typedef struct {
    void * p;                   /* Pointer to actual object */
    unsigned int x;             /* Extra information - reuse count etc */
} ptw32_handle_t;

So I don't understand why the compiler is complaining that pthread_t self variable isn't pointing to a struct.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions on how to resolve this?
