expand code to include DS2

events in XTC get processed in serial by all MPI slaves

why? not sure.

Master node does not tell other nodes to shut down

Currently, when the shutdown function is called, the master node calls MPI.Finalize(), but the function needs to be called on all nodes to shut down the MPI framework correctly

I added code to allow the master to send termination messages to all slaves. I also added code to the slaves to receive the messages and shut down.

I issued a pull request with the code

all print statements should be handled by logger

this is important -- we need some good feedback tools so developers can see where bottlenecks in their pipeline are (master vs. slave)

support for MapReducer subclassing

it has been much more natural for me to subclass MapReducer rather than use it as is -- updates coming
