Re the paragraph starting "This question is important...": "Underspecified" is a loaded word. (It's theoretically overspecifying. ๐) One author emailed us to say that they think their work should not have been cited in a paragraph about underspecification. When we wrote it, we meant something like "abstract phonological representations start general and become more specific" by underspecify and that's why we talked about holistic representations.
For the postembargo public postprint,
remove "these representations are underspecified and that"
change "become more detailed" to "become more segmental"
