New channel, we can't determine how long they will consistently upload

  • How do they show a high level of standard? (e.g. quality control, native speakers, etc.)
    (Presumably) native German.

  • What makes their content noteworthy?
Short, well timed edits. Uploads are pretty consistent.

Usada Pekora plays Emily Wants to Play! Best moments
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfvMPRDrqbE

  • Why should I subscribe to them?
Self explanatory. But honestly, Mikuri makes mistakes all the time, minor ones that don't ruin the meaning or construe it. I point them out to him all the time and he takes it at face value. I(Yosh) respect that. And his editing efforts are arguably the best in the scene.

  • Does the channel focus on a particular VTuber(s)/groups? (e.g. Lyger simps for Matsuri)
Lot's of Pekora content, does a fair bit of non-peko as well

  • Especially for the “Decent” category: if any, what errors or issues do you see sometimes? What justification do you have for still recommending them? (e.g. typos, translation errors, bad editing, etc.)

  • How do they show a high level of standard? (e.g. quality control, native speakers, etc.)

  • Does the channel focus on a particular VTuber(s)/groups? (e.g. Lyger simps for Matsuri)
    seems pretty varied.

  • If any, what errors or issues do you see sometimes? What justification do you have for still recommending them? (e.g. typos, translation errors, bad editing, etc.)
haven't seen much wrong myself but also haven't inspected to rigorously.

  • Why should I subscribe to them?
    Lizard: ✓ grammar
Suisei’s Keyboard: Decent translations, unmonetized and dont feed on dramas

  • Does the channel focus on a particular VTuber(s)/groups? (e.g. Lyger simps for Matsuri)
Focuses on Hololive and independents with connections to Hololive(Tamaki, Ui-sensei)

  • If any, what errors or issues do you see sometimes? What justification do you have for still recommending them? (e.g. typos, translation errors, bad editing, etc.)
I've only seen minor translation errors which don't impact the translation

  • How do they show a high level of standard? (e.g. quality control, native speakers, etc.)
Superbgamer5225: Very good translations, doesn’t feed on drama. Used to sub other seiyuu content for Love Live, Bandori, and more while still maintaining quality. Highly recommended.

Has a focus on subbing full playthrough's rather than one off clips from streams. Adds flair to the video with humorous editing as well. They also translate the dialogue from the games being played which is a nice touch.

Some lines seem like they could be worded better, but some of that might be down to different translation philosophy. I can't say too much more as what little Japanese I know isn't enough to make an authoritative judgement.

[Suggestion] User Groups, User Needs, & Splash-Page Formatting

Introduction

I copy and pasted a few of my comments/thoughts from Discord to here into one full fledge thread plus added one section. Makes it more readable and not easily as buried.

As you can tell from the length, it's a full essay about user groups, their needs, and formatting the first page. A bit long but just my thoughts on how to approach it.

1. USER GROUPS

I think it would be best to first define the user groups that would be looking at the wiki and what they'll do with it. From there, it'll make the navigation/splash page a lot more easier to create and direct people.

For example: a person who only cares about the list won't read more than 3 lines of description. As sad as it sounds, some people just consume without critical thinking.

Below is a barebones idea of the type of audiences:

A) Casual

Watches clips here and there shared by friends, enjoys them.

  • uninformed - will jump to the masterlist immediately without question (I expect a good amount considering how many people are just entering the hobby)

  • informed - will read the basic description of to understand what they're looking at and then jump to the masterlist to see.

B) Hobbyist

The people who fell into the VTuber hole and actively searches for content. An example can be people who frequently visit vtuber communities.

  • 0-50% hobbyist - these are the people that are really getting into the hobby. This group will read just about everything about the list, why it's made, etc.

  • 50-100% hobbyist - they're really active in the hobby at this point and probably superchatted/got a membership with a vtuber at this point. They will do everything above in 0-50% hobbyist and may browse some of the discussions/voting in regards to how certain groups got recommended, etc.

C) Veteran

  • These are the people who have decided to contribute to the community and helped grow it.
  • They are the translators, meme-makers, community moderators, artists, etc.
  • Some of these individuals will follow the list watching how it works, comment about groups/translations, contribute recommendations/more comments, etc.

Of course, there'll be exceptions of users to the following groups but just having general user groups will appropriately tailor the information to what people want.

2. GROUP DESIRES

Considering each group has different wants/needs, these are the basic ideas of what I think they'll want.

Casual:

  • TL;DR / Basic description (a few lines about what this is, very short)
  • Link to Masterlist
  • Link to Allow people to recommend channels

Hobbyist:

  • Full description (why the list is made and just overall important information they should know)
  • Link to Discussions
  • Link to Masterlist
  • Link to Allow people to recommend channels

Veteran:

  • Full description
  • Link to Discussions
  • Link to Masterlist
  • Link to Allow people to recommend channels
  • Link to Contribute further to wiki if desired such as translation checkers, etc.

3. Splash-Page Formatting Suggestion

Now that I defined the groups above and what they may possible need. (of course, they can be adjusted due to more feedback)
We can now cater the splash-page to attempt to cater to each group. This will ensure people can navigate cleanly and find what they want fast without delay.

The hierarchical order from top to bottom is Casual to Veteran. This is because the Casual will not want to spend as much time reading text, look at recommended list, and just go to watch VTubers. Those who want to look further will stay on the page longer and browse more.

The following format below is what I think would be good to structure the very first page. If we incorporate UI buttons, then it can be reconverted but I'll assume it's all text.

  1. Title of Project/List (top of the page)

While it's in the literal link name, not everyone is used to github's format vs. Google Docs and it doesn't hurt to have a proper title.

  1. Short description of the project (1-2 lines)

Max 3 lines because people's attention span is very short, it's best to have this be a sort of short tagline of what this is about, get the messaging across quickly for casuals.

  1. Link to the MasterList

Make this very visible and not easy to miss at all.

  1. Recommend a TL Channel

  2. Discussions/Feedback on TL Channels

  3. FAQ

  4. Full Explanation: Underlying Framework

Explains how the list is made and just any important information that Hobbyists and Veterans may ask about. The naming can be renamed to something else more convenient and shorter.

Conclusion

I'm very sure there are more sections/pages that I'm missing because we're still in the foundational stages right now. For now, at least this is a nice discussions/suggestion/starting off point to think about when making the wiki.

I notice there's a lot of text and we're making a bunch of systems/rules, so it'll require a bunch of organization internally too.

Thanks for reading my University essay. What am I doing with my life.
