Barilla Passive Cooking Device

This is a repo for the Barilla Passive Cooking Pasta Thermometer. Cook smarter!

Overview

The Barilla Pasta company started a passive cooking ad campaign that included an opensource arduino sketch and 3d print files to build a device to aid in accurate passive cooking of pasta.

The arduino code was shared as a zip file, and so I have started this repo to create a community around the device. At some point I want to tweak it to work for hard boiling eggs following the method as prescribed in The Food Lab

How it works

Thermometer -> Arduino -> BLE -> smartphone notifications

Device

The original sketch targets the Arduino Nano

Smartphone App

The companion Barilla Smartphone app is close sourced https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.passivecooker

Technique

Barilla shared a nice table of cooking times (you don't need this device of course). Boil then add pasta for "cook time" and then turn off heat... pastaCookTimes pastaCookTimes pastaCookTimes

Idea for a self-contained UI without BLE + App

Would it be technically possible to explore keyword spotting for the pasta type and use inferencing (like TensorFlow micro) to automatically adjust the timer based on the type of pasta? You can activate the microphone with a mechanical trigger for example, then run the inference engine, confirm with a pre-recorded voice the pasta type, and once the user has confirmed the classification output of the neural network, turn off the microphone. No need for BLE nor an app, depending on the energy optimization schemes for this circuit, it could possibly extend battery life.

RCircularBuffer.h missing?

I'm testing out the Barilla Passive Cooking at the moment, but I'm getting stuck on the RCircularBuffer.h library. Do you know if this is named wrongly, or is missing from the original download folder Barilla provided?

I can't seem to find this library myself, so I'm kind of stuck. Was hoping someone here might help!

EDIT: Seems like the library is misspelled in the code, however I'm having more issues compiling. Anyone having the same issue?
