Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • Windows 10 Education 20H2 update, v19042.844

Additional context
Maybe this is not a bug but rather the intended behavior. My bad if that's the case !

Option to view cover art in bigger size

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Sometimes you just want to appreciate a nice cover art in a bigger size than that of the Now Playing view. I know I do !

Describe the solution you'd like
The possibility to view the artworks in a bigger size on the Now Playing view. There is a lot of space unused so I don't think it would hinder any other functionnality or UI elements if it's allowed within limits.

It could be done in multiple ways:

  • Scrolling wheel over the artwork to adjust its size (the most intuitive I think).
  • Right-click the cover art to bring up a menu with presets like "Small, Default, Big" or something like that.
  • Or maybe just an option within the settings of the program to set the preferred size with some presets like above. But I would only do this on top of one of the other options above, as a failsafe if the user didn't notice they could adjust it by scroll wheel or right-click, at least they realize this is possible if they see an option for it in the menu.

Additional context
That's something I'd like to see. MusicBee for example let's you double-click a cover art to pop up a new window with the cover art in full res, but I think this a little too much, having it be adjustable within the program especially on the now playing view where there is basically nothing but the cover art, some text and the player bar, feels more streamlined and user friendly.
What do you think ?

Windows 11 Support

Since Groove still contains the Spotify advertisement on Windows 11, I thought I'd test this. This is not a request or bug report, but confirmation that the version currently on the Microsoft Store is compatible with Windows 11 (22000.282) and works as expected. Thank you for producing great FOSS.

Suggestion to change volume adjustment behavior

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Having to click two times to adjust volume is less practical than just a quick mouse hover + scroll. And for those like me that have built this habit on other programs or websites, it feels weird when that feature is not present.

Describe the solution you'd like
On click, volume icon mutes or unmutes.
On hover, it makes the volume rocker appear -> mouse scroll over the rocker to adjust volume.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Alternatively, just enabling mouse scrolling to adjust the rocker would be nice.

Additional context
A WebM of the behavior described aboved. This is on Youtube, obviously. I think they figured out the best and most intuitive behavior for a volume button.
https://files.catbox.moe/gcytjy.webm
And this is also compatible with laptop touchpad users since you can still be able to click on the rocker to adjust it.

But that's just a suggestion ! 🧐

Opening files with Mustastic doesn't play them.

Not to nag or anything but I just wanted to mention, that it still isn't working for me though I discovered "open with" at least opens Mustastic but doesn't actually play any of the files I've tested. Let me know if there's a way for me to send you logs or something along those lines.

Exact same thing happens when I "open with" or set Mustastic as the default app for audio files. The app would launch but nothing would play. Should I create a separate issue?

Edited tags on an album, it updated the Date Added when it shouldn't have

Describe the bug
I had added an album to my collection some weeks ago, and thanks to the recent update, it's Add Date was properly recognized and everything was fine. However, I was doing some tag editing on some albums, and the Add Date for one of them got changed to today even though I didn't move it in-n-out of my music folder or anything, just edited some tags and it modified the Add Date for some reason, from being marked as added some weeks ago, to marked as added today.

To Reproduce
No real steps except try and modify tags here and there.
I've tried to reproduce it myself by modifying various tags on albums I added some time ago, but I didn't manage to reproduce.

Expected behavior
More reliable Add Date recognition.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • Windows 10 21H1, Build 19043.1023, Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.2020.0
  • x64
  • 16GB of RAM

Additional context
Since I have no idea how you work out that Add Date recognition within Mustatic, I don't know if it's something I've done myself that caused it not. Could modifying the name of the folder of the album cause the bug, for example ? Could changing tags that were in Latin characters to Japanese characters cause that ? I don't know.

Getting collection ready is insanely slow

When I opened the app for the first time the "Getting your collection ready" is really really slow. Also it says that I have 133 items but actually I have around 770 files (~6GB) in music library.
The path of my music (Windows) Library is not the default one (%userprofile%\Music), but I moved it to the OneDrive music folder on another disk (D:\OneDrive\Musica).

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open the app for the first time
  2. Getting collection ready takes forever to complete

Expected behavior
Much faster completion

  • Windows 10 Pro Insider Dev build 21277

Wrong play/pause button in compact player when opened while a song is playing

Describe the bug
When you start playing a song, and then enter compact mode, the button displayed at first on the compact player is "play" when it should be "pause" (since there is a song playing). If you click it, it returns to normal behavior, it's just when first entering compact player.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Start playing a song
  2. Switch to compact player
  3. Notice the button being is "play" rather than "pause"

Expected behavior
The button displayed when first entering compact player while a song is playing should be "pause".

Crashes while getting collection ready

The app will crash after about 30 seconds of the "Getting your collection ready" screen. Have tried re-installing the app, and rebooting my computer.

Allow click outside of album tracklist preview popup to close it

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Clicking outside of the popup does not close it, which is expected behavior for me, but maybe that's just me.

Describe the solution you'd like
A click outside of the popup, in the grey-out area (but still inside the program window, obviously), closes the popup.
Same effect as clicking on the Close button.

Additional context
Screenshot
Let me click the greyed-out area to close please ^^

Space for pause/play

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
It's frustrating to use space bar in hopes that it would pause/play the track but it dosen't, instead toggles the side bar or selects an artist etc. Using space to pause/play is pretty default in all kinds of players be it music or video players.

Describe the solution you'd like
Changing the key binding for selecting menus to include 'enter' key only instead of present 'enter' and 'space' key. Then assigning spacebar to pause/play track.

Describe alternatives you've considered
My keyboard does have media keys but they are small and further upwards and pressing spacebar has a nice feel too.

Add any other context or screenshots about the feature request here.

More options for the background in the "now playing" menu

Screenshot

I'm not a huge fan of the way it looks with the artist picture behind the album cover, it looks kinda busy and I can barely read the text sometimes. I would love to have a gradient or a solid color taken from the album art as a background. Ideally this would only be optional for those who like the way it is now.

Import .m3u playlists

Describe the solution you'd like
Importing playlists from .m3u files. Import from file button in the playlist tab

Describe alternatives you've considered
Opening .m3u file in Mustastic will cause importing it automatically

Music add date isn't properly recognized

Describe the bug
All my music is marked as having been added 420 years ago😆
Except only one album for some reason, which is marked 2 months old.
I've added new music since I first noticed the bug, and it still gets recognized as added 420 years ago too. I've tried reinstalling the program or deleting my music folder and re-adding it to the library, but to no avail, the bug persists.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to Album View
  2. Sort by Date Added
  3. See wrong dates ?

Expected behavior
Date of addition is detected properly,

Use System Accent color (Option)

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
This feature request is not related to a problem.

Describe the solution you'd like
I feel the app should use the system accent color that is selected by the user instead of default blue.

Describe alternatives you've considered
If for whatever reason the app requires the default color be default blue, please consider adding the option to use the system accent color as a optional setting that can be toggled on/off.

Additional context
I'm very intrigued by your app, I've been looking for a new UWP based music player, and this looks to have immense potential, as a advocate for robust theming I hope with time the app gains more customization options.

NewMusicProject bug

Describe the bug
Replaced the path to my music folder from D:\Ondrive\Music to C:\User\Christian\Download\Music.
Because the app couldn't create the collection off of the OneDrive folder.
After clicking on "reset my collection" it asks to restart the app but drops only the error.

Expected behavior
It should restart the app an scan for music in the folder.

Blurry fonts when resizing the program window

Describe the bug
Fonts in the Album view and Songs view will blur when adjusting the window size. If you resize the window, let's say enlarge to the right, by one pixel, fonts will be blurry. Another pixel, and they are back to sharp. Another pixel and they are blurry again. It does not seem to occur in the Artists view or in other areas like the settings page. This bug can be annoying if you resize frequently your window, and unluckily resize it to the "wrong" size where the fonts are blurry, then you need to resize it by one pixel to get sharp fonts again.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Be in ALBUM view or SONGS view.
  2. Start resizing the window horizontally, very slowly, pixel by pixel.
  3. See the fonts alternating between sharp and blurry state.

Expected behavior
Fonts remain sharp while resizing.

Screenshots
https://files.catbox.moe/2ps9yw.webm
You don't see it because out of frame, but I am very very slowly resizing the program window to the right, one pixel at a time (or I am trying to, at least).

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • Windows 10 Education 20H2 v19042.844

  • x64

  • 16 Gigs of RAM

  • Additional context
I don't know if it's related, but I do have ClearType enabled in Windows.
EDIT: In fact, by looking closely at my video in fullscreen, I noticed the album art seem to move along with the text. Like the cover arts are moved one pixel to the left or something... weird.

Get a ARTIST tag displayed on the Now Playing view (currently only ALBUM ARTIST)

Currently only the ALBUM ARTIST tag is displayed under the cover art in the Now Playing view.
So especially for compilations and multi artists works, if you tend to tag them as ALBUM ARTIST="Various Artists" like me, then you just get a nice "Various Artists" under every song in the album when really I want to see the ARTIST tag of each song.

Describe the solution you'd like
Add a line for the ARTIST tag in the track info under the cover art.

Audio skips randomly during playback

Describe the bug
During normal playback, audio will skip a couple seconds forward (or even backwards sometimes, I feel). It happens to me maybe once per minute, but it's still pretty random.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Play a song for a couple minutes
  2. Notice the "skip" in audio during playback

Expected behavior
No audio skips during playback, obviously :p

Screenshots
I captured some audio of what it sounds like when it happens.
Here's example n°1: https://files.catbox.moe/653ml0.mp3
And here's n°2: https://files.catbox.moe/m60ei1.mp3
It's easier to hear in n°2. But I think you'll clearly here the moment it cuts and skips.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • Windows 10 Education 20H2 build 19042.867
  • x86 architecture
  • 16 Gigs of RAM

Additional context
It's hard to tell, but it seems to happen less when I'm not playing a game at the same time. So it might be related to heavy hard drive utilization when I'm playing a game ?

Space out the grid view when selecting a genre

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The grid view to select a letter or genre or date, is not spaced out enough for text to be fully displayed.

Describe the solution you'd like
Let's space it out a little :)
