I submitted a patch for this in September of 2010 (a one-liner) but Martin Auer
has apparently decided not to fix it. I also suggested to-front and to-back
features but he decided he didn't want those. His reasoning is that you
shouldn't be stacking elements but rather should create your own custom
elements that are nested and do not require the stacking.

I fixed the bug locally and can post the change here if anyone's interested.
Even with the bug though it's way better than anything else I've found. I'm
just glad it's open source. =D

Hi,

Thanks, would be nice yes to have the patch, maybe Martin will change its mind
(at least for the bug itself).

Hi,

I've got the same problem that some elements cover other ones and I would also
prefer to change the order of elements of back to front by hand.

Could I get the patch?

In UML elements do stack: ports on components, nested states, etc. Currently I
have a local patch which allows me to control z-ordering (rather than using
grouping to fudge it) in the UI so that I can have ports sitting on top of
components, however when I export all the ports appear below the components.

Attached is a patch which fixes this issue by building a entity list which
preserves z-ordering in the exported file.

We've discussed this problem, and I guess that we will fix it in one of the
next releases (most certainly by storing the z-order in the uxf files and
retaining that order through open/save/export/...)

Though it's not a top priority issue and it will need some time, so I cannot
give you a time schedule ;)

I am glad to hear this problem is being fixed. We use UMLet for other diagrams
as well which have overlapping objects and getting the output, in our case
.png, to look correct is a bit of a hassle. Just about all drawing programs
have some controls for z-order. Thanks, and I love this plugin!

The problems with z-order have been fixed in
r348 r349 r350

1.) The order of elements is now the same in the shown diagram and export
2.) You can manually overwrite the order by specifying "layer=<integer>" to
force a specific order

Is there any way to change the layer after objects are created without having
to re-create them?
