Data in Climate Resilient Agriculture (DiCRA) is a collaborative digital public good which provides open access to key geospatial datasets pertinent to climate resilient agriculture. These datasets are curated and validated through collaborative efforts of hundreds of data scientists and citizen scientists across the world.

dicra's Issues

the standards to name a farmer a good or bad farmer.

Hello
I hope you are doing well.
Having Qualitative criteria in the RASD file is a big drawback for our work. So, I need to know how can I assume some farmer to be good farmers? or how to assume some farmers to be bad farmers.
please give me a standard so that referring to it, I can speak with Quantitative criteria.
Thank you very much
Amirhossein

Triggers for farmer and policy makers actions

Hello everyone,
Our group has 3 questions about the event that should urge people to interact with the system.

Firstly, we know that policy makers should be able to identify well and poorly performing farmers. Should it be whenever they want ? (so even when farmers haven't finished their harvest) Or should it be once a year, semester,... ?

Likewise, should farmers be able to release production data whenever they want or on regular times (every month, semester,...) ?

Finally, for help request, is it the farmer that autonomously asks for it ? Or the system that identified that he was badly performing ? (independantly of the policy maker identification of poorly performing farmers)

What do sensors measure ?

Hello everyone,
Our group has 2 questions about the sensors.

-Is there any litterature about them ? (model, number of them deployed, kind of deployment,...)

-They are assumed to measure the humidity of a soil. But does the measure take into account the additional water provided by the irrigation system ? Or is it "natural" soil humidity ? In other words, are the sensors in cultivated fields or not ?

Irrigation system data

Hello everyone,
Our group has 1 question about the irrigation system data.

-Is the amount of water used daily measured ?

Request to Update India Map for Accurate Representation

I noticed that the current map of India used in the project is incorrect. As an advocate for accurate representation, I kindly request you to update it with the correct map. This will ensure compliance with legal and cultural considerations while promoting a positive image.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Soil Dataset

Since it is not specified in Assignment RDD, one shouldn't use the soil metrics provided in the dataset of this Github, right ?
(soil texture, depth, carbon)

Data provided by farmers

Hello everyone,
Our group has 2 questions about the specific data a farmer should provide.

-First, concerning the type of crop, does the farmer give a list of crops he will likely plant in the future ? That-is-to-stay what crops he knows how to farm or crops he has in stock. For instance, while registering, he could give his list of crops : [corn,soya,...]

Or does he only specify what kind of crop he chooses for one production ? And so, he would for example give to the system : "10t of wheat produced on October-July".

-Secondly, we are told that personalized suggestions advise fertilizers. Thus, should the farmer specify what fertilizer he generally uses ? Or the specific fertilizer he uses for a specific harvest ? Actually we are not sure that farmers use the same fertilizer for different crops.

What are the "incentives" ?

Hello everyone,
Our group has 2 questions about the incentives the policy makers can grant to to farmers.

-Is this a financial support ?

-If it is the case, should it be handled by the system ? Or is it just supposed to warn the farmer, so that some kind of administrative procedure can be led to receive the cash ?

Policy makers area

Hello,
Our group would like to know on what area the policy makers have authority. Is it on a district ? Or is it on a mandal ? And is there only one policy maker dedicated to one area ?

Performance metrics

Hello everyone,
Our group has 3 questions about how to determine if a farmer performs well or poorly.

We can easily assume it is linked to the amount of the production. But since we want an intensive quantity, should the farmer also provide the fields surface ? So we could have a surfacic productivity (eg. in tonnes per km²). Is it also possible that some farmers plant more than once in a year ? (eg. hay) In that case, the system may require the duration dedicated to a specific crop (in order to compare two farmers that have produced the same amount but in different timelapses). And we would thus need a productivity in tonnes/(km².days).

Should the system take also into account the weather conditions or the soil humidity ? We think that someone in a sunny area should not be put on an equal footing with someone in a cloudy one.

Who will be considered as policy makers?

Hello, thanks for your attention and help in advance.

Our group has a question about policy maker.
Up to now we assumed them as people from Telangana's government, India's government, United Nations ecc.
However, will there also be the possibility for everyone to register to the platform if they are interested in seeing the data?
If so, should we give different rights among policy maker depending on their role? (Read only, Read & Write etc)

Thanks again

Personalized suggestions

Hello everyone,
Our group has 2 questions about how to personalize suggestions to farmers.

-We understood that the suggestion should be based on location and production type. What is the production type ? The means of production of the farmer (machines, spreaders,...), if it is intensive cultivation, fallow method, ... ?

-Humidity, weather forecasts or best practices shouldn't be taken into account ? Then, is there some kind of standard table ? (for some place and production type one could advise some crop and some fertilizers)
