These are my dotfiles. They apply to my Linux machines mostly, but there may be some hacky artifacts from my short stint on OS X and/or WSL.

This should be something considered part of our configuration, I think.

Split apart .vimrc

It's getting very unwieldy, especially with all the new configuration lines we put in after the switch to neovim 0.5...

No longer care for lightdm in the wallpaper script

We don't use lightdm anymore, we use gdm, so the bit of extra code in that file for handling lightdm (PNG files) is not needed.

Since we no longer really use Alacritty/Neovim, it isn't quite as honest of a depiction of our set up anymore.

Phase out (neo)vim and possibly alacritty

With the transition to emacs (try-emacs), we no longer really need (neo)vim or even Alacritty given that we can do what both of those things do within emacs.

Since we are running emacs in daemon mode, I believe we can get the same 'pop-up' alacritty functionality that we've been relying on without any fuss.

Use .Xresources for xst, rofi, etc

We should ideally be using .Xresources for this stuff... especially rofi, the script we have for it is obnoxiously ugly.

Rename compton configuration to its new name: picom

Compton has renamed itself.

Get rid of vivid theme

We added nord to upstream here, so we can get rid of the vivid theme we're tracking currently.

Get rid of kontrol.fish

This is a hacky way of still using gnome-control-center under i3 without gnome running. It's brittle, and it's also kind of silly. For the most part, we use it for network related reasons (choosing a wifi spot, turning on VPN, etc). However, we've been using nmcli for so long that kontrol.fish doesn't really serve a purpose anymore.

Add customized configuration for rust to coc-settings.json

Instead of using coc-rust-analyzer.

Find a better solution for .i3/config & .i3/config.focus

It is too hard to make sure these files stay in sync except for the parts where we want them to diverge. We should find a better way to keep these two in sync.

My guess is a simple templating solution combined with a commit hook is probably sufficient... that and/or a Github action to verify that the files are in sync could be a good solution.

Add 'focus' mode

I'm keen on trying out a 'focus' mode that gets rid of the pretty stuff and gives me something very minimal and dark:

• Use a stripped down, minimal version of i3. Closer to its default settings.
• Make polybar less distracting by removing icons, etc.
• Replace the wallpaper with solid black.

This should lead to something that attempts to get rid of as many distractions from the screen as possible. I'm curious if it'll help.

Translate bash scripts to fishscript

Stop tracking wallpaper images in this repo

We shouldn't be tracking large or a large number of images under git.
