Allow custom search provider

• The last option in the list of providers should be named "Custom", and use @drawable/ic_provider_generic.
• On click it should open a dialog for the query, and bypass the normal persistence flow
  ** The dialog should show the duckduckgo unformatted url as the hint, unless a custom url was already set.
  ** Dialog title: "Add custom provider". Positive button: "Select"
  ** The dialog, on click of the positive button, should verify the url contains exactly one token/placeholder, and is a valid url (the Android validator should suffice).
  *** If not verified, display toast "Incorrectly formatted address.". The dialog should not be closed.
  *** If verified, persist choice.

[FR] lower minSdk

Maybe it's a good idea to make it available on Android 4.x if API used allows.
The app is light: right for lower Androids 😃

Thanks for the cute app. This is the first assist app I found useful 🙂👍
This is a functional extension request like in #5
I'd want to see the search in dictionaries as modern book readers (FBReader, CoolReader) have. They use non-URL local intents. E.g. I use local dictionaries with Aard2 app.

Search installed apps

Should suggest installed apps (using a pop up list above the query field) as the user is typing and they're matching.

Only activities allowed on the launcher and matching the query should be listed.

Entry point that:

1. Explains how to activate (deeplink to "defaults" settings?)
2. Has option to hide launcher icon

can't find app after install

Running lineageos 15.1 on OnePlus 5t. Installed via fdroid. Fdroid didn't offer option to run after indicating successful install, only to uninstall. App not available on desktop or in drawer.
Uninstalled and installed via Play Store, same behavior - option to uninstall but not open the app, no app in drawer or desktop.

Feature Request: Choose search bar position

The searchbar is above the keyboard and it feels unnatural to me. I would prefer if it was at the top of the screen but that is just me. Please add an option to customize where the search bar is posotioned

Feature Request: Use Webview Instead Of Browser

A cool option to have is the ability to have the search result load in your default browser or in Andriod Webview. Something Similar to what SearchbarEx app does.

allow to modify urls

hello it would be very useful to be able to edit the url of engines because you can pass several parameters in the url, thanks. longpress on an engine to edit it would be perfect

Feature Request: Hide Search Engines

Please add a feature to hide certain search engines to declutter the list of search engines.

How to change assist app in Android 9

After a long search I could not find a posdibility to change the assist app TU o justsearch.

Add a search widget

Simply that will be great.

Add home screen widget

Normal Android appwidget. Should just launch AssistActivity. 1x1, icon should be the launcher icon.

Allow more providers

A cog should show on the top right of the AssistActivity, which will launch a Settings screen.
That will allow the user to choose from a preset list of search providers and the choice will be read from AssistActivity when a query is submitted.

The initial list should be:
DuckDuckGo, Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yandex

Add a shortcut action [Suggestion]

Is there any chance the app will add a shortcut action anytime? Its prettt difficult to activate it with Android Pie's gestures bar, however, BxActions could be a great alternative (for Samsung devices) on this case: it would allow the Bixby button to be remapped to launch the search app with a single click.

[FR] bang (exclamation) search providers

E.g. if I search "JustSearch !yt" with DDG, it'll search "JustSearch" in YouTube.
Nice to have JS opening URL directly, skipping a browser, in an app handling YT URLs (NewPipe in my case)
The same with other bang shortcuts: * Maps, etc.

Remove Yandex and Yahoo

Support contextual text search action

When selecting text in a browser, there is usually a "search" action available on the actions pop-up.
Duckduckgo's native app seems to support this and is open source so that would be a good source of information for what the intent filter might look like.

Distribute on F-Droid

Update the way just search is set as the assistant app

I recently installed KISS launcher and decided to try using it as an assistant, and it must have a more up-to-date method of defining itself as the assistant app because even though it was set as the default assistant in settings, when I tried to open the assistant it had a popup to select the default assistant (the same kind of popup as the one that shows up when you haven't selected a default browser, with the "just once"/"always" options and the list of all the potential assistants on my device). I didn't think much of it until I decided I didn't want to use it as an assistant and tried to switch back to Just Search and it didn't work, it still opened up KISS launcher as the assistant. Turns out, it doesn't trigger that default assistant selector, and since KISS was the only other potential assistant I had installed, I had to install the google assistant to trigger it again, at which point I was able to switch back to just search and uninstall google again.

Would it be possible to update how Just Search handles itself as an assistant so that it will trigger that default assistant selector and people don't accidentally lock themselves out of being able to use it?
