community's Introduction

OMF Community Resources

Welcome to the Open Metaverse Foundation (OMF) Community documentation. This is a central location for information related to our work, the processes our projects uses and how to contribute with them.

First and foremost, ensure you read the code of conduct and values guides. Then reach out to Foundational Interest Groups (FIGs) that are involved in the areas you want to contribute to.

What is the current structure of OMF?

As of Jan. 2023, the Foundation is divided in eight Foundational Interest Groups (FIGs). Each FIG is responsible for the discussions and proposals of certain points related to the open metaverse structure. The current FIGs, and its responsabilities, are:

FIG Overview of Responsabilities
Users Responsible for fostering open source and standards to support user-focused objects.
Transactions Dedicated to creating open source and standards for the transfer of ownership and receipts required to audit and verify objects.
Digital Assets Responsible for fostering open source and standards related to digital assets and objects created, consumed or destroyed.
Virtual Worlds and Simulations Discusses open source and standards for the creation, management, and operation of persistent experiences
Artificial Intelligence Fosters open source and standards for the creation, management, and operation of artificial intelligence agents, NPCs, trainers, and augmentations that may alter or interact with experiences or worlds
Networking Discusses open source and standards pertaining to transport architecture, services, and operations, enabling data transmission across various digital mediums in a global environment
Security and Privacy Supporting the security, accessibility, and privacy practices for all foundational interest groups
Legal and Policy Discusses non-legal advice of open source and standards pertaining to rights, intellectual property, laws, and policies that will arise from the creation or enhancement of the processor technologies related to the Metaverse

General Responsibilities of the Community FIG

In summary, our responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the content of the OMF Documentation in the official website
  • Supporting documentation requirements and discussions from FIGs through templates and processes
  • Managing forums, Discord, and other community engagement channels

How can you contribute?

Participate in the meetings As we just started our works, joining the meetings is essential to give feedback and influence how the future metaverse will look like. Everyone is welcome and, for every group, we have an agenda posted few days before, and we also need people who volunteer for taking notes or even facilitate the meetings!

This is the current agenda for the meetings:

Group Periodicity Date
General Meeting Biweekly (TBA)

You can also check out our calendar for events and past meeting notes.

Contribute in our documentation and guidelines Whether it's filing an issue, updating existing docs, or even writing completely new docs - we highly appreciate all efforts to improving the documentation. We are still developing standard ways to take notes as of now!

Contact

You can reach us on Discord, Slack, Mailing List, Matrix and our Website. The messages are replicated between all the communication channels (Discord, Slack and Matrix) so you can pick whichever you are most familiar with and join!
