vt-ida-plugin's Issues

Crash when starting remote debug session

When starting remote debugging session (IDA on Linux, debug server on Windows 7) IDA Pro crashes. I managed to isolate the conditions to:

  • IDA Pro is being run with file as an argument /opt/idapro-7.4/ida FILE
  • vt-ida-plugin and deREferencing plugins are installed

When IDA Pro is run without argument and file is opened later using the File menu, the crash does not occur. I managed to reproduce this issue on clean Xubuntu 19.10 with no additional software installed only packages updated to latest versions as of 12. 3. 2020.

I created same issue for the other plugin as well - danigargu/deREferencing#14.

Xubuntu 19.10
IDA Pro 7.4.191112 Linux x86_64
vt-ida-plugin v0.8
deREferencing plugin as of 12. 3. 2020 (danigargu/deREferencing@65eb1a1)

Implement an API layer to support other frameworks such as Cutter and Binary Ninja

Currently, the Plugin is built above IDA-Python and dependent on IDA to achieve its information. That, when IDA is basically supplying for the PLugin the information to work on, which is not special for IDA.

My suggestion is to use a more flexible and modern design for the Plugin in such a way that an API layer is implemented above CORE functionality. The logic will be implemented without being dependent on a specific disassembler to supply the information.

In this way, the community would be able to implement plugins for other disassemblers such as Cutter, Binary Ninja, GHIDRA, and others.

This method will expand the usability of the Plugin and your great implementation for IDA can be a template or a go-to reference for other plugins.

To sum up, the solution I would like to see will be

Cutter IDA Binja GHIDRA

                    |
                API Layer
                    |
            VT Querying Logic

Will it be updated continuously?

It seem that the repo has been not updated for a long time, but to higher versions ida pro, the code does not work now. Do the owners of the project have the idea of constantly updating?
