RELAP5 Input File Generator (RIFGen)

Nuclear Reactor safety analysis is a systematic study to demonstrate the limits and reliability of reactor in normal as well as accidental conditions. Reactor Excursion and Leak Analysis Program (RELAP) or RELAP5 is a tool for analyzing small-break LOCAs and system transients in PWRs or BWRs. It has the capability to model thermal-hydraulic phenomena in 1-D volumes. It is used for the thermal- hydraulic transient analysis in water-cooled nuclear reactors by solving one dimensional, two-phase thermal-hydraulic equations in an arbitrarily connected system of volumes. However, the preparation of the input file and subsequent analysis of results in this code is a tiresome task.

The aim of this work was to develop a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for preparation of the input file for RELAP5. The GUI has been developed in VB.NET using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.

This project deals with the development of the GUI Environment named as RELAP5 Input File Generator (RIFGen). This GUI generates complete set of cards for Hydrodynamic Components, Core Components, Time Step Control, Minor Edit Requests, Trip Input Data, Heat Structure Input, General Table Data, Plot Request data, Control System Data, Additional Plot variables, General Code Input, Couple Control Cards and other Miscellaneous Cards. These components have been tested and validated individually. RIFGen has been validated as a whole by generating input files for several standard problems.

  • increase the precision from 3 digits to 4 digits for flow area (FA) of PIPE, single junction, single volume, branch.

a sample case for 1 inch pipe and input in SI unit.
British unit : 1 inch pipe —> FA : 0.0054 ft2 <— 3 digits OK
SI unit : 1 inch pipe —> FA : 0.0006 m2 <— 3 digits Not OK

DELETE a component single volume / single junction (I am forgot which one) from the model actually not delete from component list in the model.

Please, improve the branch model, by allowing junction from and to more than one. And clear the deleted junction.

Please, add the diameter hydraulic for the internal junction.

Sometimes, the cpu time data change automatically.

Do you have plan to include the integrated post processing to the GUI? so its look like FLOWNEX code

I already add the menu to execute RELAP5.exe from GUI.

I add the code to allow input model to be re-open correctly after the GUI have been close, model become persistent. However, the code documentation was not well documented.

Cannot access to URL

To whom it may concern,

I am very grateful for the work you have done! It seems to be pretty useful after so many years of preparing the inputs by hand. However, I have to admit I have not been able to access the URL relap.codeplex.com/ where I should be able to get the latest version of the program (at least according to the user guide).

If you can give me an advice or something it will be very helpful and I'll be totally grateful!

Bugs found

  1. The input precision is 0.00001, but the data generated in *.i file is 0.00. Shown in the attachments.

  1. The button "File-Simulation Settings" doesn't response, nothing popup.
  2. The input precision is not enough, for example, in my case the flow area is 4.08e-5.

PS: The environment is Win7 32bit&64bit
