Importing ESM modules into server

Can we import an ESM Module into the Server side?
(e.g. Formidable V3)

Current behavior
This is currently problematic - the default for the server modules is commonjs.
Perhaps conversion of server to ESM? This has implications for shared interfaces between server and angular.

Current behavior
The current version of angular-express uses Angular 7.2.15.

Expected behavior
The current version of angular-express should use Angular 8.

What is the motivation / use case for changing the behavior?
Update of Angular.

An in-range update of knex is breaking the build 🚨
