Too terse documentation, I couldn't get it to work

I appreciated very much this extension because asking users to upload files is not a good idea and because we use an image CDN to speed up things and to optimise size for all devices.
But the installing it was difficult and the instructions were too short and they did not work with recent versions of Directus. We had to put it into extensions/interfaces to see it in the field configuration. I can set the interface, but I dont' know how to set the display (raw value? Formatted value?). Either way, I couldn't get it to show the picture.
Additionally, is or would it possible to set a standard prefix/suffix as to store only the path ad set the first part of the URL in the interface pane?
