washweb-2019's Issues

Put initial BF related data into wikidata

We roughly agreed to simply follow existing on how to arrange the hierarchy or the inputted data and also to try and document that in the wiki for our current and future understanding on how to improve the structure for our needs.

Time tracking

  • 2019-10-15: 09:00 - 12:00 (varia meeting)
  • 2019-10-23: 10:00 - 11:00 (roco meeting)
  • 2019-10-26: 16:00 - 18:00 (researching wikidata)
  • 2020-01-15: 09:00 - 12:00 (new year first meeting)

WASHNote as a wikipedia/data actor

OK, I'm going to merge some tickets on related ideas into this one to focus.

Please see comments on those tickets for further information.

This is about creating a plan of action for WASHNote as an organisation starting to be involved and participate in the wikipedia and wikidata ecosystems and what needs to be done.

Scaffold a script that scans template changes

This should re-use existing solutions, approachs and best practices from actors like dbpedia and mediawiki itself (libraries and whatever is available for use in the FLOSS world). We're most interested in discovering when the template is edited. Other things will follow, but that is our first concern. If this script can understand when a template is changed, then we'd like to plugin in notifications of that into a trello (or whatever) through a 3rd-party API binding. We're aiming for very minimial and flexible glue here for the first step.

Keeping track of relevant IT organisations

Who is relevant? Who works with open and linked data? This is a pretty open ended ticket but let's see how it goes in terms of dropping stuff down and keeping track of who we might look up for specific needs as we go forward.

Data stores, import pipelines and pre-baked front-ends

ACTION: @lwm to investigate data stores, import pipelines and pre-baked front-ends

  • The data store should do the heavy lifting for us (wrt. relationships)
  • To move fast, we just want some existing front-end for exploring data
  • Overall, let's reuse what is there where possible. Simplicity wins

Track WASH Web contributions

We should have a way to track wiki contributions to WASH Web and track if it improves the data ecosystem. In other words, we should see the data we populate on wikis being updated and maintained by others over time.

Build initial re-usable template for infobox

We talked about minimal set of fields, defining the public of the information and making it a re-usable template so that it can be dragged in from other pages for use. We also wanted to use it from a sandbox so that it can be experimented with from the "edit scanning" script that we'll also work on.

Identify first use case

Idea to focus in on one country to pilot the integration of WASH data sets with wiki data and reduce the amount of manual research and data input required before we can generate a genuinely useful wikipedia page or info box, which people will be able to see.

Datasets and useful relationships

ACTION: @nickdickinson to pick datasets and useful relationships

  • We leaned towards would be the most minimal examples of some insight that can be used to talk people through or show in brief demos during talks/visits/calls etc. in order to get a feedback loop going with potential end-users.
