Regarding the raise button: Is it possible that pressing it would raise the player (in my case: Rhythmbox) ad hoc, thus, without "going the extra mile" via the Shell event notification?

My extention doesn't raise the application by itself but tells the application to raise via MPRIS : http://www.mpris.org/2.1/spec/Root_Node.html#Method:Raise. So it's up to the application to raise...

You might be pleased to know that an interactive progress slider and a better raise function (which btw, is done now by clicking the player name in the menu) are available in the devel branch. This will land soon in master after some testing !
