Hi,
I'm looking to do some freelance work as a technical consultant (I'm a draftsman). I've never done anything on my own before but somehow I have one client ready to go. The problem is the client is in the US and I have no idea if this complicates things. The client company has no holdings in Canada.
Were the client a Canadian company, I going to start out very informal. Quote them an hourly rate, invoice them when the work gets done and keep track of all the records and hire an accountant come tax time (looking into the one you mentioned on your post).
Have you had international clients, specifically those in the US? Are there speed bumps I should be aware of?
PS - I'm an idiot and have no business registration or number or anything.
Thank you,
What 2-3 changes that you have made in the last 12 months were you most resistant to, and why? What were the outcomes of these changes and what effect (positive or negative) did they have?
I was wondering, what do you think are the most inportant skills for a junior front end developer? Which advanced topics?
Referring to https://sublimetextbook.com/
Did it turn out more difficult than you initially thought? What did you learn from writing it? Any tips to others that want to do the same?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
what do you normally prefer to use px/%/em/rem? and why?
I was recently introduced to rem and looks like from now on I will only be using %, rem and occasionally px in my code.
oh, and what do you think about these guys ( i just came across it the other day and though it was interesting, especially the http://txti.es/about )

Thank you!
You mentioned earlier that you blog quite and bit, and spend quite a bit of time on them. Given that, what is your process like?
Specifically:
In my experience, a lot of front-facing websites seem to have some common requirements:
What does your setup for a site like this look like? Would Wordpress still be your platform of choice, and if so, what would you do to make it more like a CMS and less like a blog?
Thanks! 🍺
I know you've been able to work with development teams as a freelancer but would you ever consider settling down with a company full-time?
I've seen some tweets or read somewhere that you said you're not a fan of PHP, more specifically that it isn't "cool" and it's "not nice at all".
Just curious where did this opinion come from? Any bad experiences with PHP?
And since you don't like PHP, what is your favorite back end language?
Personally I think PHP is one of the nicer languages that really has come a long way in the last 5 years. Any interpreted language is cool in my book (Python included). But to each his own, right? 😄
How would you compare the Atom Text Editor with Sublime Text?
What are you really pumped to learn that you think has really great potential or would just be fun.
Can you give us a few things that you've learned about yourself since having your first child? Which of these was most surprising to you?
I'm still wandering around docs and researching, but I was wondering what your thoughts were on how to specifically style timing as the case is with what I've attached. Using iTerm2 w/Oh My ZSH. Dotfiles that are being used can be found here => https://github.com/dennisgaebel/dotfiles.
I'd prefer to style the time in black with a diff color or even a solid bg fill if possible.
When I started off, I found learning the intricacies of build tools like Grunt took a while to sink in. What technical skill (whether a build tool, learning a framework, understanding a particularity of a language, etc) gave you the most grief during the learning process?
I asked Drew this one too, but I'm also curious to know your opinion. I keep flip flopping...
Let's say in an alternate universe where you never discover programming.
Screenshot please. I ask everyone this as it tells a lot about a person. Mine for example.
From equipment, to software, to process... If you didn't just figure it out as you went, what did you study? What have you improved on from that? What do you know now that you wish you knew when you first started?
I am a javascript developer programming node and browser-side. Except PHP I don't know any other back-end languages. I want to learn something that I can use for web applications, but also just for other kind of programming. What language would you suggest me to use?
vs. creating, teaching, writing, etc.
OMZSH was cool years ago but it's not really a cool kids thing anymore right?
I always thought it was better to use something like https://github.com/sindresorhus/pure and not OMZSH.
What brought you to start exploring/using JavaScript, and can you describe the path for your own learning? How long before you felt you had enough of a solid foundation to build on, that moment where you understand how all the moving parts work and you can start to get efficient/creative rather than trying to figure out what's happening?
Do you have tips for beginners determined to learn, but who don't have a programming background nor much opportunity to use it in their day-to-day projects? How can a beginner find/create small learning projects which are not too complex when they don't really know what "too complex" looks like?
Hope that's not too long!
hey I love your talks, post , wtflexbox and you motivate me a lot .. :)
I completed my first website a kind of web app and god knows the troubles I faced. I changed the themes I designed for about 10 times( I kinda feel bored when I keep on looking at those themes again and again) .I would like to know what are your steps in building websites.do you feel bored at the designs you develop or am I the only one. Thank you.
With regard to client work - what are some of the common traits among what you consider to be your best clients?
Q: What is your go to / favorite front end Javascript framework? Angular? Ember?
Also as a sub-question:
What is your opinion on Vue.js?
I know you were trying out Firefox Dev tools for a month. What was the result of that? Have you converted over to FF now or are you back to your tried and true Chrome?
