I have now tried uninstalling/reinstalling anki then following the steps above without step 1. and hence just pasting the github addon into the addon directory and not pasting over any old files and it works !!!!! Awesome..thanks for a great addon !!! I'll upload these instructions to the anki addon site as lots of people dont seem to be able to get it to work but are desperate like me.
