Liquid tag doesn't seem to be recognized

When I try to build my site using bundle exec jekyll build, I get the following error:

  Liquid Exception: Unknown tag 'pseudo' in ...
jekyll 2.3.0 | Error:  Unknown tag 'pseudo'

jekyll-pseudo is in my gem file.

The part of the code causing the error is as follows, with empty lines before and after:

{% pseudo %}
To shuffle an array a of n elements (indices 0..n-1):
  for i from n − 1 downto 1 do
    j = random integer with 0 ≤ j ≤ i
    exchange a[j] and a[i]
{% endpseudo %}
