Feltilizer Coupon Registration Mobile App

Introduction

Malawi as a country relies on agriculture for both its economy and food growth. As such, the government through its small holder famers and big farmers cultivate crops every year for export and domestic use.

Fertilizer is one of the essential materials for every farmer to have large harvest every year. Unfortunately, not every farmer, specifically small holder farmers do afford to get much fertilizers that is required for their fields. Some farmers even fail to get a single bag of fertilizer. As a result, these farmers get less sometimes no yields at all.

The Malawi government has put in an initiative to subsidize fertilizer so that small holder farmers can buy this fertilizer at lower cost. For this process to take effect, government needs to register all small holder farmers so that it should know who is supposed to receive the coupons. Obviously, a manual registration using papers will cost the government a lot than computerizing the whole process.

Motivation

The issue of fertilizer is critical in agriculture, and Malawi being an agriculture dependent nation, the government has embarked on a mission to help itd farmers most especially small holder farmers. For that fact, government is gathering information of all small holder farmers through manual registration, where it has sent out more data collectors to go and register farmers. This will help the government to budget well.

Looking at the whole process and how hectic and in accurate the manual registration gets, it has motivated me to develop an App that will enable small farmers to do the registration on their own and their convinient time.

The Malawi government is going to save a huge chunk of money because the registration process will not take a lot of time, also, the government will not employ a lot of people for this process.

How It Would Work

The main features for the app include: REGISTER | LEMBETSANI, for self-registering of farmers’ information into the system, UPDATE | LOWETSANI, for updating information, DELETE INFO |FUFUTANI, for deletion of information, VIEW INFO | ONANI, for viewing of the information from the system.

The words in italics are the literal translation of the words before them in the vernacular language for Malawi. The vernacular language is called CHICHEWA.

NidAride Mobile App

Introduction

This is a mobile app designed to serve travelers who need a quick ride between the two main cities of Lilongwe and Blantyre in Malawi. Travelers would check and book which ride is available from their city, who the driver or car owner is vehicle papers validity and time of departure.

Motivation

There are many times when people wouldn't want to use a big public bus or even a coach. Among other reasons being coaches being costly, or maybe after booking the coach, they still missed the departure time and still need to travel the same day same time. Also sometimes, one would prefer a quick ride because it doesn't really take much time to fill up so that they start a trip. Still more, one would prefer a quick ride because they move faster than big buses.

Sometimes one would just want to send a parcel to the other city, so they would ask within their small circle who is traveling which day between the cities so that they pass their parcels to them.

Challenge

Now, the problem comes in when someone is not sure if when they get to the picking up points, whether they will get the ride in good time, or if they will actually get the ride in good time. In addition, when they get the ride, they are not in a position to know who the owner or the driver is, also if the vehicle is fit for the road or has valid papers to be on the road. On the other side also, the driver doesn't really know who they have picked, whether they are good people or criminals.

How It Would Work

Drivers or car owners would register or put up information that they are traveling to one of the cities. Also, they would indicate how many people they would be able to take with them and what parcels they would be able to carry in their car. On top of that, they would be required to put in vehicle validation papers. This would help travelers know who they are traveling with, and if the car has valid papers.

On the other hand, travelers will also be required to register with their information from their national ID. If they are traveling with other people then information for everyone should also be provided. This would help the driver know who they are traveling with.

Driver can accept or decline the traveler or the parcel.

Benefits

Travelers can book and check for the ride availability even before they arrive at the picking point. This can be done at the comfort of their home. The app can send a notification to travelers when the driver accepts their request.

A notification would also be sent to the parcel sender when the consignee receives the parcel.

Travelers can opt to notify their next of keen or their relatives of the information of how they are traveling. In the same way, a notification will be sent to them.
