Install

Install the Chrome extension via the Chrome Web Store (removed) or unpack the Chrome extension (Download ZIP) in your extensions manager.

Background

Despite what many comment sections on the internet would have you believe, the gender split of people who use the internet is 50/50. However, this is not the case with people who rate films on IMDb. Most IMDb voters are male, which skews the rankings in favor of films that are aimed towards men.

A lot of (academic) articles have been written about skewed film ratings. A quick Google search:

• 'Rotten Tomato and IMDb: film rankings skewed by mostly male voters'
• 'IMDb analysed: how do men and women's favourite films differ?'
• ‘Review bombing’ of shows and movies like ‘She-Hulk’ and ‘Turning Red’ is ruining the credibility of online ratings

Feature request

Would it be possible to enrich the 💕 yassified 💕 ratings with the absolute number of ratings per gender?

Example

How many of the 104K votes in this screenshot were cast by women and how many by men? Optional addition in bold.
♀️ 7.6/10 (xx K)
♂️ 6.9/10 (xx K)

Why

Being able to also look at whose ratings are included at all, instead of only looking to what extend the the final grade can be seen as representative for all genders.

Further questions

• Is it a conscious decision to only display the ratings of a film and not include the absolute number of ratings by women and by men?
• Would necessary details be retrievable from the, limited-looking, API?
