On Demand Fuel Cells (ODFC) is a plugin to simulate fuel cells in Kerbal Space Program (KSP), and do a better job of it than stock's use of a resource converter. The main difference is it only generates electricity when it's really needed (batteries almost empty), and otherwise lets electricity of a craft float up and down, as it might in a solar powered vehicle when the sun is eclipsed by another celestial body. It also allows fuel cells to generate byproducts, aimed at supporting life support mods like TACLS.

The plugin includes a set of Module Manager patches to function, as it does not do anything unless integrated into a part. The patches integrates ODFC into the fuel cells from Stock, Universal Storage 2, Jatwaa Demolitions Co, and Solid Fuel Cells (soon more) and replaces the stock modules with ODFC with three modes (four if Community Resource Pack is installed correctly) of operation. Also adds a 0.5 EC/s multimode fuel cell to all stock command pods (easily disabled since in separate patch)

  • PAW (Part Action Window / Right Click Menu) grouping with auto collapse,
    • click the down arrow to drop the ODFC control panel down (KSP 1.7.1).
  • Two new features from the game settings:
    • Stall: fuel cell stops working if vessel total electric charge falls to close to zero (0f) and will not start until there is more electric charge. Fuel cells require EC to work.
    • autoSwitch: automatically switched fuel mode looking for fuel if the current mode becomes fuel deprived.

I take no part, nor am I interested in maintaining the CKAN mod metadata for my mods. CKAN is a great mod for those that can't use zip tools. If you are having issues please let the CKAN people know and refer to the CKAN thread. My support of CKAN extends as far as me checking the checkbox in Spacedock when I upload. Beware, CKAN can really mess up though it tries very, very, very hard not to.

AllYAll integration:

+PART[] patches copy everything on a part, including AYA modules.
Since AYA does nothing with ODFC module, it creates a useless button in the PAW for the part.
Need to create a universal patch to remove the AYA module on copied ODFC parts.

Add 'Stalled' Mode to Difficulty:Hard in settings menu

want a settings page or just a setting in the settings menu for a difficulty:hard option.

fuel cells will cease to function if the vessel's available EC reaches 0f. This does not include locked tanks.

Additional option is to have an even higher difficulty setting where even if the fuel cell is operational and has fuel it will stall.

A stalled fuel cell is inoperative until it can be jump started.

Reasoning is fuel cells take EC, even if a very small amount, to operate and they cannot operate in a 0 EC environment.

NRE related to capacitors

Receiving NRE spam when parts / vessels with ODFC are loaded, in conjunction with Near Future Electrical

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Load a vessel with ODFC (like a Mk 1-3 pod or a fuel cell)
  2. Make sure you also have NFE installed
  3. Check logs
  4. See NREs filling them

Expected behavior
ODFC would make coffee for me. And possibly scones.

[BUG 0.0.1.9c] ERROR!'s out when there is only one fuel mode. Stock pod patch only adds one mode (monoprop - because pods usually have monoprop if they have any fuel). This bug was temporarily fixed by added a second mode(it can be the same as the first so it appears like there only one fuel mode) in the patch (LFO).

Mode/Fuel Autoswitch

would like an option in PAW to enable an autoswitch (along with corresponding autoSwitch = true/false in part.cfg).

when becomes fuel deprived, would switch to either next available mode, or the next available mode with the highest EC produced.
