favicon and title text beside favicon

Hi,
I couldn't figure out how to change the favicon and the text that shows up on the website's tab in a web browser(e.g. a Google chrome tab). It shows "Hugo Serif Theme" currently with a pink square and white "S" favicon. Please help and thank you!

404 page has hard-coded style sheet path without hash

The 404 page hard-codes the style sheet path as /css/style.min.css, but on production builds the file name has a fingerprint hash in it so the hard-coded path isn't valid.

why you stopped using exampleSite?

Forked Repository No Longer Working

I forked this repository and altered the 'SCSS'. Now when I build the site on Netlify. I get

Floating bottom-right pixel width display?

For whatever reason, there's a floating display in the bottom-right of my pages that shows the current width of the window in pixels (see below for an example). Haven't been able to track it down; any clues as to where this might be living so I can remove it?

Mobile menu shows off-screen for wide pages

Hi. I have a page with a table that is fairly wide (so on mobiles there's a horizontal scrollbar).

It's pretty difficult to break this table apart, so it's going to take a lot of space anyway. However, the side effect of that is that menu appears centered based on that width. It's not a problem if I make browser window small on PC

But it shows up wrong on mobile. What can I do to fix this?

Error in Style.scss when building Hugo

May I know how to fix this

change logo to png fails to load file

Very clean theme. Thank you for creating it.
I have a minor problem and am not sure if it is me or a theme configuration.
Using brand new homebrew version of Hugo

hugo v0.85.0+extended darwin/amd64

Upload my log png to static/images/ logos
changed config file to use new png file
However the theme wont display this - Only seems to be able to display svg files

Logo moves horizontally between pages

If you switch quickly between pages, for examples

You will see the top left logo moving horizontally (it moves right it team compared to services).

I'm not proficient enough in CSS to fix it with a PR myself, sorry.

strong and em present in html source but not showing in rendered page

I'm using hugo-serif-theme together with Rmarkdown. I had to make some minor tweaks here and there, but overall it is working well.

I'm surprised though, as both italics and bolds aren't properly shown in the pages, even though they are there in the html source.

See the last two paragraphs in this page:

Html Source:

Puede ser afectada por eventos naturales o sociales <em>que ocurren en otros continentes</em>.
and

si usted y su empresa ejecutan <strong>hoy</strong> las acciones correctas

But is showed as plain text in the rendered page.

I don't know if this is a feature or the result of me using Rmarkdown. If so, I'd appreciate your guidance on where to look and have the theme to render bolds and italics as desired.

Change colours in config.toml

Good day,

I would like to edit the colour scheme of the theme and followed the method suggested in the README (adding info to the config.toml file).

It isn't taking effect however. When I look at the scss it still has the original colours and that file can't be changed.

change primary colour

Hi Rob
I am having difficulty changing the primary colour. Have made the change in:
/themes/hugo-serif-theme/assets/scss/_variables.scss#L1
but not seeing any difference. Any ideas?

Hamburger has some strange opacity bugs

Hi,

visiting the theme in a small window and using the "hamburger" results in some strange artifacts.

Pull color configuration to theme config / settings

I come across serif theme and I really like your work. Given my limited knowledge of scss I was stuck at very basic problem - adjusting of theme colors. I've tried to create _bootstrap-variables as well as bootstrap-variables files with mixed results.

At the same time I found other themes making syle colors configurable:

Would you consider moving color config to theme settings? If so I can try to come with an PR.

The header logo on mobile device looks very small...

I'm using a svg image as my logo. It's displayed correctly on desktop devices (once I played with .Site.Params.logo.desktop_height) but is really small on any mobile device. I also tried to modify the header.html to force a size but it has no effect at all... What am I missing?

While trying to run the code, Hugo doesn't recognise and compile the changes in the scss files on my machine.

No way to exit hamburger menu on larger screens

On opening hamburger menu on a smaller window and then switching to a larger one, there is no way to exit the menu.

External html and JS content not loading?

I been trapped by this for a long time, but when I tried to put html or JS code blocks into the markdown file Im writing. The code block doesn't show up in the html file generate by hugo
I was trying:

Could it be that the serif theme contains code that could be considered malware by google ads?

Hi. I'm using the serif theme, which I think is great, but when I try to use google ads, it tells me that my site (geoytopo.com) contains code that could be considered malware.
Question: would there be any code inside the public folder that you consider could be warned as malware? It's a respectful question, I honestly don't know about programming, but I want to be able to use the google ads with the serif theme.

Can't add a list to content/team/_index.md

I'm trying to add a list of items to the page content/team/_index.md but it is not shown as a list.

I think something is missing for that in the css but I'm not familiar with css. When I'm finished adding content to my new web site I will have a look myself if I can figure out where it goes wrong but somebody familiar with css can fix it better and faster.

Different images for dark mode?

I would like to use different images based on light or dark mode as they don't always work with such extremely different color schemes. Or I would like to set the website permanently to dark or light mode. Is this possible?

Sticky TableOfContents

I would love to see a sticky TableOfContents added to this simple and elegant theme.

Footer out of place in IE 11

When viewing the theme in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the footer and subfooter are not displayed at the bottom of the page but at the top. This is due to the way IE interprets the shorthand flex: 1;.

A possible fix is to set the attribute to flex: 1 0 0; in assets\scss\components\_page.scss

Sorry for not fixing this right away and submitting a PR, but I'm bad at git. 😄

As an aside, this is a beautiful theme and I want to thank you for the work you put in it.

Hamburger close button disappears in website resize

Small edge case bug:

If you open the theme in a very small footprint (mobile view), open the hamburger menu, then resize the page, the close button (X) will disappear.

Help with modifying website homepage

I want to know how to modify the content of the homepage of the website. I don’t seem to see the documentation.

Unable to generate or run the server

Hey, I am unable to run this theme.
Here's what I did:

1. Installed a fresh Hugo copy
2. Cloned the theme
3. Replaced top level directories with those from the exampleSite/ dir
4. Renamed baseUrl to "/"
5. Ran hugo command

I get this error every time:
Total in 0 ms Error: Error building site: open /Users/-------/Projects/hugo-portfolio/themes/content: no such file or directory

Had no such issues with other themes. Any idea what is going on?

Added theme to hugo site, ran hugo and got
parse failed: template: team/summary.html:4: function "Site" not defined"

In layouts/team/summary.html on line 4, a period is missing in front of "Site"

Embedding services pages into main page

Hi,

Is there a way to actually include all services in the main index.html file with proper styling of their titles and content? In my case, the accompanying text for each service is rather small and their individual page appears somewhat empty when clicked. I tried dumping them in Markdown into index.md but that is styled in a way to flow on the left side of the main page visual.

I've tried to figure out how to change the title from "hugoserif" to a custom title. No dice. Could you please clarify?

Sitemap issue with Google

Hello, I've used the theme (it's great, btw), develop the website and successfully deployed with Netlify. Though, I'm having some issues with Google Search Console: basically, it says that the sitemap I've generated is valid but contains some errors on the urls.
What you think could be the problem?

Safari iOs 15.0.2 - mobile version - menu doesn't show / work

Works perfectly with firefox for iOs.
With safari, the menu (up-right) doesn't show / work.

Home title does not change title of the theme

Navigating to the / path results in the title being the full path

However, navigating to any other location correctly names the title.

How can I fix this?

Upgrade to Bootstrap 5.2.1

I was thinking it would be nice to upgrade the CSS to Bootstrap 5.x and it looks like 5.2.1 is the latest available.
After checking, it seems like it would be almost a 1-for-1 swap, with very small tweaks, since you're using very little of the library by default.

Once Bootstrap 5 is in place, we could potentially take advantage of some of the new features it has to offer.

Is this something you would be interested in doing, please let me know and I'll create a PR. Thanks.
