action-get-merged-pull-request's Introduction

Action Get Merged Pull Request

actions-workflow-test release license

This is a GitHub Action to get the pull request merged with the base branch.

This action supports push events with the base branch (e.g., master).

It would be more useful to use this with other GitHub Actions' outputs.

Why this action?

The permissions for the GitHub token in forked repositories are read-only. That's why it's necessary to trigger push events for base branch if you want to trigger pull_request merged events for some write use cases.

However, push events don't have information on pull requests, rather than pull_request events. This action provides you with information on the pull request even if you trigger a push event.

The merged commit sha of the pull request fetched by this action is equivalent to the sha of the pushed commit.

For further details, see https://help.github.com/en/actions/reference/events-that-trigger-workflows#pull-request-events-for-forked-repositories.

action-get-merged-pull-request's Issues

Is this action published?

What you want to add

Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ Is this action published on the Github actions marketplace yet? I'd like to start using it but it doesn't seem like it's published yet.

Why this is needed

This repo solves a problem that I have in the CI/CD flow I'm building out. I can create a duplicate action in my repo, but I'd prefer to just use this one ๐Ÿ˜„

Enable use for GHES

What you want to add

Bump actions-toolkit and octokit dependencies, then use new API

Why this is needed

To enable this action for GitHub Enterprise Server

Github issues warning regarding set-output when action is run

What happened

Github workflow displays 5 warnings with the following information:
Warning: The `set-output` command is deprecated and will be disabled soon. Please upgrade to using Environment Files. For more information see: https://github.blog/changelog/2022-10-11-github-actions-deprecating-save-state-and-set-output-commands/

What you expected to happen

No warnings should appear on successful run.

How to reproduce

Use actions-ecosystem/[email protected] in a workflow that runs when a Pull Request is merged.

How to resolve

Per the github blog:

Action authors who are using the toolkit should update the @actions/core package to v1.10.0 or greater to get the updated saveState and setOutput functions.

This will remove the warnings as shown above. Github has stated that non-updated actions will fail with an error as of 1st June 2023 a future date.
#437 looks to be related to this issue.
