This issue only occurs when running the mod in actual Minecraft. When debugging in Eclipse it works as expected.
I installed the curse version 4.2.7-18 and when I attempt to create an atlas, the game bombs.
I also couldn't determine if the server needs to have the mod installed as well. Perhaps that is the problem? I might help others to add that to the mod description.

Mods that allow generating of structures from schematics (Fornivore's mod, Recurrent Complex, Schematics) can use this block to identify the structures on the map.
Like the feature Journeymap has.
It displays a beacon beam and a floating point with the waypoint name in the actual world.
This would be handy to have for AntiqueAtlas and would allow me to drop any other maps I am using right now.
Possibly due to NEI.

Ideally with name Tooltips when you hover over the arrows.
I click the icon, it tracks me on the map, I close it, and when I next open it, tracking is turned off again. I don't think it did this before. Using latest version.

I might have to download an external library at runtime: PNGJ for memory-efficient writing to PNG format, JAI for tiled TIFF or something else.
I was enjoying your mod then i tried to copy my map and that is a repeatable crash.
Have a setting in the settings file that allows you to set min/max zoom levels for the map, optionally per dimension.

This should come in handy when an adventure map maker decides to create a special atlas showing part of a landscape without revealing where it is situated in the world.

I noticed an odd Flying ring behaviour (haven't tried other rings) upon entering Twilight forest. I entered via portal and the ring was in my inventory - the flight option wouldn't work until I moved the ring to hotbar. I then tried the reverse placement. It also didn't function until dragged it from hotbar to inventory. In both scenarios I placed the ring back to its original place after I was airborne for a while and it continued to work fine. Just thought I'd mention it.
Do you mind explaining to me how exactly it maps and if it updates parts of the map if the area has been edited.
Situation: Bob and Alice have clones of the same atlas. Bob walks away, and his atlas is updated with newly explored terrain, but Alice's copy will not be updated until she reconnects to the server.
Because JVM apparently used a 32-bit "cell" for holding all primitive types, and this even incurs a performance penalty for arithmetic operations.

I have an Atlas in my inventory, and when I die there is no death marker in this atlas or in its clones.

To prevent the following situation from occurring:
Alice wants to share her progress with her friend Bob. She clones her atlas and gives a clone to Bob. Bob then combines the clone with the atlas he had before, but accidentally puts them in the wrong order on the crafting grid, and ends up with a clone instead of a separate atlas.

Seems to be something to do with your new village stuff.
Right now atlas data is being sent in a single packet via compressed NBT tag. This is stupid and dangerous, because atlas size may grow indefinitely.
See attached screenshot of a zoomed-in map, showing a village marker and well tile at about where I'm standing, but as can be seen in the background, no village exists here.
Loading the world save in AMIDST also shows a village marker in this spot. AMIDST warns that villages may not generate in all marked locations due to obstructions (possibly this one failed because of the lake). Some sort of check to see if a village successfully generated, before placing the marker, may be in order.
EDIT: If it helps, the seed of this world is 7526775279340133531, and the coordinates of the not-village are X: +64, Z: -240.
Additionally, automatically-placed village markers (erroneous or not) cannot be removed with the delete tool.
