You are correct. The upgrade of handlebars made changes in how whitespace is handled. I am working on new templates, but still don't have all whitespace work out correctly. As soon as i have it ready i will make a new release.
In the mean time you could provide your own template using a .versionrc
file, or use the previous version.

@hdevalke the other somewhat minor problem is the template. Markdownlint would complain about this as :
- some lines have too many columns
- there needs to be exactly one empty line between headers

I will work on this branch and try to fix the empty line problem. For the character per line issue, I need to look into your code to see if I can do something about it or not
