entypo's Issues

Entypo2 Only Rendering in Chrome

I'm unable to use the new version of Entypo in FF, iOS, or IE. The old version hosted by Font Squirrel works fine, but when I drop in the 4 font files for the new version (keeping all file names, changing nothing but the files themselves), the fonts don't load correctly. See site: blog.inneosg.com

Any assistance is appreciated.

A few icon suggestions

Hey there :)

  • Remove-user
  • Remove-from-list
  • Load (file)
  • Uninstall
  • Minimize (window)
  • Maximize (window)
  • Arrow-combo (horizontal)
  • Pin
  • Unpin
  • Untag
  • On-top
  • On-bottom

The font is lovely. Keep up the good work!

Windows Phone 7

But i have problem in Windows Phone 7. Some icons are not rendered.

Issue with Firefox/IE and web fonts on Apache server

I was having an issue with my Entypo not displaying on Firefox or Internet Explorer. After doing some research and realizing it wasn't anything I had done wrong, I found this article to be very helpful: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/forum/discussion/4/font-face-troubleshooting-font-face-problems

Basically, if you're using an Apache server, you have to declare that SVG is a file type. So all you have to do is add a line of code in your .htaccess file.

Unicode above 0xFFFF used, problem to display these characters in many platforms

Thanks for the fantastic work on the entypo icon set.

I have a problem with it though, and cannot seem to get it working fully, because quite a number of icons use five-digit unicode values.

How to deal with those? As visible in my screenshot, even my programming environment (IntelliJ) considers, for instance, "\u1F464" as "\u1F46" followed by a 4.

As for programming languages affected: I am working in Flex (ActionScript) and Java at the moment, but extensive Googling told me people using many other programming languages have similar problems addressing Unicodes above 0xFFFF. I did not find any solutions, though.

Maybe there is a simple solution. If so, I would love to hear it.

Or if the solution is in fact not simple for many programming languages, maybe you could consider releasing a version that uses only unicode values below 0xFFFF?

Hoping for a reply, and thanks for your time!

Icons show up randomly and often not

I'm having huge issues working with these beautiful icons. I've inserted them as both entypo-classes and in other classes through the "content:" function.

However some icons works, some dont. And mostly in other browsers but Chrome they dont. Is there a best practise about these icons, so they're consistent on all platforms?

Finalize glyphs codes

  1. Try to follow Unicode 6.1standard.
    • Opera is blocker for 1Fxxx symbols. It just doesn't show those. Temporary changed symbol codes, to be < 0xFFFF. See config, proper codes are commented
  2. Sort the rest in PUA (E000+), define some logic, better than +1 sequence.

PS. In general, CSS names used to address glyphs, and codes are not significant. But it's a good idea to follow standards. At least, because it simplifies promoting glyphs to unicode.

[enhancement] Add missing bower.json.

Hey, maintainer(s) of danielbruce/entypo!

We at VersionEye are working hard to keep up the quality of the bower's registry.

We just finished our initial analysis of the quality of the Bower.io registry:

7530 - registered packages, 224 of them doesnt exists anymore;

We analysed 7306 existing packages and 1070 of them don't have bower.json on the master branch ( that's where a Bower client pulls a data ).

Sadly, your library danielbruce/entypo is one of them.

Can you spare 15 minutes to help us to make Bower better?

Just add a new file bower.json and change attributes.

{
  "name": "danielbruce/entypo",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  "main": "path/to/main.css",
  "description": "please add it",
  "license": "Eclipse",
  "ignore": [
    ".jshintrc",
    "**/*.txt"
  ],
  "dependencies": {
    "<dependency_name>": "<semantic_version>",
    "<dependency_name>": "<Local_folder>",
    "<dependency_name>": "<package>"
  },
  "devDependencies": {
    "<test-framework-name>": "<version>"
  }
}

Read more about bower.json on the official spefication and nodejs semver library has great examples of proper versioning.

NB! Please validate your bower.json with jsonlint before commiting your updates.

Thank you!

Problem with bower

Please add this repository to bower.io so that we can install it with bower

'paper plane' icon doesn't render

The icon with the title 'paper plane', or html code 🔿 does not display at all in this github build of Entypo. It occurs when using the web font, occurs in 3 browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Safari / all Mac).

The DOM seems to respect the space the icon would take, but the character is invisible. Perhaps this is an issue with compiling and can be easily solved?

I prefer this build over the download from entypo.com because the default character height is a a lot bigger, so I don't have to mess around with font-sizes as much.

Plan to add the new icons to github?

Hi Daniel,

do you plan to put the awesome new icons that you just released on http://entypo.com her on GitHub as well? It would be really awesome for forking, contributing, etc.

Also, we had a font scaling problem with the version from the website vs. the github version.

Website Entypo version:

GitHub Entypo version:

Would be nice to hear from you.

In any case, many thanks for creating and releasing Entypo. This is really revolutionizing how we work with fonts & icons.

escaped sequences preferred in css

I have a question about the decision about using UTF-8 chars instead of css escape sequences in 85ecac6

I have had no problems displaying these icons using css escape sequences in FF, Safari, or Chrome (commit 16cfc6a ).

Besides, wouldn't using special characters force us to use the @charset rule? http://reference.sitepoint.com/css/at-charset

Instead, this css method could be used:

content: "\2665"; /* ♥ */

and expressions can be added for earlier IE support

Perhaps this has already been thought out, so just looking for some explanation on why that route was chosen.

Problem with Opera

Hi Daniel,

Opera doesn't render half of the icons. (Version 12.11, updated, win7 in my case). Is there anything that can be done about that? They are amazing so I'm gonna cry hard if I have to drop them coz of the Opera.

Btw, thank you for sharing them!

Aspect Ratio

Hi, the font is very beautiful but difficult to work with because of the size of the boxes/padding around the icon. When integrated with regular text, the icon is too small. And if you make it bigger, the tall box will move the entire line down. And with a variable width, making a simple square button with a centered icon involves a lot of css trickery.

It would be perfect if there was a 'allcaps monotype' version of the font where all the font boxes are square with the icon centered.

OS X Opera 11.6 - not rendering font

Fonts do not render in Opera 11.6 on OS X Lion.

Upd This is OS X specific. No problems under win/linux

www.entypo.com uncler about font license

The site is somewhat confusing whether the font is under CC BY-SA or SIL OFL:

  • Top of www.entypo.com says "Pictogram Suite ... contains OpenType ... All released ... CC BY-SA 3.0". No mention of OFL.
  • In the downloaded Entypo.zip I don't see any text file describing the copyright/license.
    • Running ttfdump on all .ttfs inside the zip I see ".C.r.e.a.t.i.v.e. .C.o.m.m.o.n.s. .C.C. .B.Y.-.S.A. .2.0.1.2" in the name table.
  • Bottom of site makes the disctinction between pictograms and font.
    • "'Entypo pictograms by Daniel Bruce — www.entypo.com' is considered acceptable attribution." — is attribution required only for BY-SA, or also for OFL? Also, should the attribution be a visible text/link or hidden in source is OK as suggested on Fontsquirrel forum? These are really generic questions that betray my ignorance of font licensing, but it may be useful to clarify if the requirements for pictograms vs font differ...

P.S. actually I'm trying to figure out the license for Entypo obtained via Fontello. Fontello, IcoMoon and Font Squirell all list Entypo's license as BY-SA, no mention of CC-BY.
To make things a bit more confusing, this repo's config.yml says OFL but https://github.com/fontello/entypo fork has CC BY-SA. README makes the pictograms/font distinction in both.

Finalize CSS icon names

There is some difference between original file names / bootstrap / semantic. Decide, wich one is preferable, and should be promoted to another iconic fonts.

Problem showing icons on firefox

Hi,
I'm having problems with all entypo icons in Firefox but probably there is something broken on my side which I can't figure out.

Viewing the page locally everything works as normal but when I put everything online I can't see icons on Firefox (Chrome works properly).

On the server I'm using nginx which serves icons with correct mime type.
In html I specified meta charset to "utf-8".
In Firebug I see there is no 404s (so browser can find entypo font)

Does anybody have an idea of what can be broken?

The output is like this for all icons:

Thank you
