Replace Python GUI with Electron app

Pro: Electron apps are cross-platform
Con: can we do it without a full rewrite of the backend? Needs more info.

Remember last selected directory

This may be trickier than it seems, since we need a database of some sort or to configure the GUI OS file manager (Finder / Explorer / Dolphin etc...) to show the latest selected location. It would be quite a good UX improvement though.

Add support for ARM

Well, it seems ARM is coming to the desktop. Can we use pyinstaller on an x86 GitHub runner to compile to ARM (Windows, macOS and GNU/Linux)?

Choose folder/ files button doesn't work

Ciao!
I have installed your program in linux with the dev instructions, because the release page file is not working for me, in terminal it says:
Language detected: en Segmentation fault (core dumped)
after executing it.
With dev instructions I'm able to start main.py and the dark mode button works just fine, but for the next one (choose folder etc) doesn't open any window. Maybe I have done something wrong?
I'm on Pop_OS! 22.04 if it helps.

Easy to use interface with only drag and drop support for paths.

Auto-resize window / QVBoxLayout / QWidget in ShowResult

Currently the window is compressed to its minimum size. This should be fixed to allow the user to instantly read all the text, without having to manually resize the window.

QLabels support HTML text formatting. Make use of it to highlight the most important parts, like the numbers.

Only these 2 errors/warnings seem unusual:

The fonts.conf file exists and is readable, any other Qt application works normally.
Even with strace, nothing relevant happens (probably because it's in a subprocess somewhere).

Make LoadingScreen window size fixed

Now it changes based on the previous window size. It would be better if it was fixed every time the spinner is shown.

do you have any advice on converting this to web application? I am currently trying to use flask to rewrite the GUI components using web technologies.

After the user has received the text output, they should be able to make another selection instead of having to close and reopen the app.

Advertise Study Planner when choosing "Open With..."

It could be faster (better UX) to allow Study Planner to open some filetypes by selecting some files/directories and clicking the right button.

Save some metadata for each file and maybe an hash code of some sort to detect document and video duplicates.
If at least one duplicate is found, it should be conveyed to the user in a dialog to avoid cluttering the main interface.

In some cases (e.g. you have already begun studying a subject) it may be useful to select only some directories / documents / videos to check how much is left to do

Add full window background

Some image to give it a fresher look than just a slab of grey. This would need to be semi-transparent and resize based on the window size. Possibly use QPixmap.

Disable maximize button

Since the main window is not thought to be maximized, we should disable the button to do so.

Handle possible exceptions

When reading file with pymediainfo
When assuming the settings file contains a path (may be absolute gibberish)

on macOS, dark mode works ✅ (see next comment)
on Windows, dark mode is not natively implemented in Qt ❌
on GNU/Linux, dark mode only works on KDE, while on Gnome on Ubuntu it doesn't (this is because PyQt5 installed from pip or apt - as python3-pyqt5 - only supports the Windows and Fusion themes, and not GTK) -> as is usual on Linux, YMMV ⚠️
