Icon in \\WSL$ not working

In my laptop, WSL2.0 (Ubuntu-20.04) has been installed and sometimes I access from explorer via the path "\WSL$". With both Explorer and Files, I can go to "\WSL$" and there's a folder named "Ubuntu-20.04".
In Explorer, I can go to "\WSL$\Ubuntu-20.04" by double clicking on the icon in "\WSL$". But in Files, even if I double click on the icon "Ubuntu-20.04", nothing happens.
(When I access to "\WSL$\Ubuntu-20.04" directly on Files, I can see the contents in that folder.)

"Phantom" USB drives, cannot be removed

I only discovered afterwards that USB drives that are not logged off before the computer is shut down remain under Files as "phantoms". These cannot be removed from Files and the drive letters are not reassigned by Windows 11. Unfortunately, uninstalling and reinstalling Files did not change anything. These phantom drives are not present in Windows Explorer, but the corresponding drive letters are also no longer available for assignment in Windows drive management. The USB drives E-H in the picture are such phantom drives.

Column widths lost on restart

Running the new app, 2.0.13.0 on w10 home 21H1 build 19043.1237. When I start Files, and then adjust column widths (ie Name), then close the app and restart, the column widths are back at defaults - not what I had just changed them to be. Am I doing something wrong?

When looking at the previewed images of Files V2, the front of the landing page and part in front of the Windows 11 Background is strictly 50% transparent and theres no blur, like it is on other browsers.

3. Take a look under the landing page where it says Power meets beauty.

Expected behavior

The background should have a Gaussian blur.

Now that this option is built into Files with v2.0.33, do we really need a dedicated page for it?

Downloads Folder shows nothing when group by is set to date created or modified

Description

Downloads folder shows is shown as it's completely empty when setting group by to either "date created" or "date modified" and refreshing or restarting the app.

Steps To Reproduce

1. Open Files
2. Navigate to the Downloads Folder
3. Click on "Sort" button on the top right (icon with arrows)
4. Hover over "Group By"
5. Click on either "Date created" or "Date modified"
6. Hit F5 to refresh or close and re-open the app

Expected behavior

Group the downloaded items by "date modified" or "date created".

Why does Desktop.Files.JSON keeps on showing up after I delete it?

I thought my laptop was infected with a virus but then I uninstalled "Files" and it was gone. Should I ignore them or is it a bad thing?

Improving the site experience

This feedback is from the currently active site under the link:

• Animations don't work on the "Docs" page
• Replacing Files with File Explorer description should be updated after an option to set it manually is present in Files Settings Currently irrelevant, will be updated once such option is present.

Description

Files does everything I could wish from a file explorer. Tabs, ease of use, good design... but there is 1 thing witch is a dealbraker for me. It uses the windows search. And as we all know that thing is slow and good for nothing. So my idea would be to make an option to change the search to use Everything. A free alternative search engine with suport for 3th party integration. It searches and finds files instently and is in my opinion the best search running on windows. It would be a great addition in my opinion and I don't think it would be a hard thing to implement for you judging by the brilliant look and feel Files presents itself with.

[Feature Request] F4 Keyboard shortcut to jump to 'address bar', similar to File Explorer

Description

Windows' existing file explorer lets you jump to the address bar by pressing F4 -- this was a super useful part of my workflow. I've switched to Files since it's way more stable than Windows 11's file explorer, but missing this keyboard shortcut is a bummer I think could be added fairly quickly.

On the features tab, when File Preview, you'll notice that the example provided to the left has a example file with overlapping text underneath it. It's titled June 2018.

I'd suggest adding something else or figuring out the scaling issue.

I had to create a new user profile... which registry keys does it modify... Please list the changes as default so I will manually reset it.

When going to the themes page, when you select certain themes, the images (examples) start to bug out and not match up. I've tried this on every other browser. Works fine. Firefox is the only one having the issue.

But instead of downloading this package (for instance to install it on an offline computer) the page instead opens a dialog "This site is trying to open App Installer". The app cannot be started after the crash caused by an unknown reason EXCEPT by uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Refreshing and No shortcuts

I noticed that some shortcuts I have created (on a network drive) are not visible. I use file explorer to verify they are there, but they do not show up in the same location in files. Please fix this.

I noticed that I have to occasionally manually refresh a folder for a contents change to be seen. Please make this automatic.

Description

A new page which will allow users to construct and preview themes for the upcoming JSON theme format, including (but not limited to):

• A sidebar with the forms for color, number and text inputs on the left.
• A mockup preview of the app with the themes applied (Svelte style props?)
• Automatic theme generation and saving.
• Contrast checker - automatically find and warn the user of possible text-background contrast issues.

This will be developed in coordination with the main Files team, to develop the JSON schema for themes.

I've already begun work on this on the https://github.com/files-community/Website/tree/theme-builder branch.

Improve parallax performance using `requestAnimationFrame`.

At the moment we use Svelte's native scrollY bindings for calculating element parallax. While this does work it wastes performance because scrollY is often updated more than once per frame.

Rather than directly binding scrollY, we can frame-throttle reassignment using window.requestAnimationFrame();

I set from the settings of the all that the Files app was the default folder to use in the operating system, but I can't turn off the option.

Switch .svx files to markdown files.

Currently we use mdsvex's default extension for naming blog post and documentation entries, but we don't use many mdsvex-specific features. I think that it would be safe to configure mdsvex to read *.md files, then just use those so that GitHub picks up on the filetype.

The app is crashing for no reason

So, when I try to open one of the library folders from the sidebar, in that case the images and video folders, the app closes for no apparent reason, and I don't know why

Hello guys, your website is only available in English and I want to translate it into my native Georgian and use it as my default language. I think that many Georgians will be happy with such news on your official website and many will use it and easily understand everything.

Documentation on how Tags work

What's the Problem?

Tags are a very nice feature, however without documentation on how they are stored and clarifications regarding how they work when operations are done on files outside of Files, it can be too risky for power users to get invested into the system because they could risk losing the tag data or not being able to migrate/sync it to another system in the future.

Solution/Idea

A documentation page that explains how Tags are stored, their limitations, what happens if files are modified outside of Files.
Ideally, a link to the documentation could be added to the UI of Files next to the settings menu for tags (maybe as an info button) in order to help with the discoverability of these details.

nit: use `children` instead of `childNodes` in `appendModal` action

In our ContentDialog component, we use an appendModal action as our own implimentation of portals for mouting dialogs properly into the DOM.

Line 27 contains some issues, though

if (modalsLayer.childNodes) modalsLayer.remove();

Notably, I think that I forgot to add a ! at the end to check if other modals were presently open. childNodes should be replaced with children as well, to avoid comments causing issues here too.

Add localization rules

What's the Problem?

Japanese translation of Files differs depending on the resource provider.

Solution/Idea

I think we should create TranslationRules.svx file with each language section on files.community website.
Contain this:

1. Localization rules for each language.
2. The list of each localizarion reviewers(needs to be confirmed by the native speaker).
3. Any of the following:
   1. If contributer provides localization resources, Files members will mention to this docs to make sure they follow the rules.
   2. Create an issue template for localization and check the checklist to see if you follow the rules.
   3. List resource providers in each language as reviewers in Docs from previous contributions.

Bug update file list and with Winrar

Hello,

I tried your sofware Files. It is really great !
But I encounter some problems. I will try to explain to you :

1. When I copy or move a file or a folder to another one, I always have to update with F5 the list if I want to view the file/folder copied
2. I use winrar to zip my files, and it seems impossible to grab and drop files to a zip file in the list of your software.
