whitepaper's Introduction

Abstract

The past decade has seen several advances in distributed systems, cryptography, decentralized technologies, open source collaboration, commons infrastructure, browser capabilities, and new classes of licenses.

At the same time, development on cloud platforms has become increasingly complex, to the point of becoming its own sub-discipline. We are also in the midst of unprecedented cultural awareness of technology's impact on politics, control, public discourse, and personal safety.

To meet the technical and social needs of the 2020s and beyond, we introduce WebNative: a fast, web-scale, secure-by-default, edge framework where users own and control their identity and data. Further, code is executable on any machine and removes deployment as a separate development stage.

We believe that this approach will free up developers to focus on shipping the interesting parts of the products and to empower designers, solo developers, and tinkerers to ship production apps on their own.

whitepaper's Issues

Write convergence proof for WNFSv2

This would be pretty good to have, because we assume convergent behaviour, and subtle edge cases can definitely bite you in this design space

DID-in-WNFS spec

@dholms was right all along πŸ˜‰

Several advantages:

  • Remove 1/3 DNS records
  • Decouple DID resolution from network access
  • User-controlled rather than purely with one service provider

Update "cap" to "att" in JWT structure, proofs section

In the JWT Structure section of the guide, the proofs section (https://github.com/fission-suite/whitepaper/blob/master/access-control/ucan/jwt-authentication.md#proofs) says

Each proof MUST form a chain all the way back to the resource originator / owner. If a UCAN's proof list is empty, it is read as being the initial/"root" UCAN. In this case, the ”iss” is the resource originator / owner for everything in the β€œcap” section.

Should "cap" be "att"? Each att defines capabilities (cap) over resources, and maybe this just needs to be reworded a bit?
