Trying to edit GUI elements

Hi,
I'm trying to edit out some of the GUI elements shown to players and am having some difficulty. Specifically, I'd like to remove the 'x' marks from ranks and colors which were deduced to be impossible, as I'd like players to deduce such information themselves. I think I've found the relevant code sections but am unsure how to compile and apply these changes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
