Error pop out in Blender when I click "Import earth studio" button

Hi,
I'm getting the following error when I click "Import earth studio" button. Please let me know if you have a solution for this.

no trackpoint to snap to (language other than engish)

Hi,
I usually use software in german and only switch to english in case of failure.
So, when set to german, there is no trackpoint selectable to snap the KML route file to.
Screenshot 2022-09-18 121213
It works whes set to english.

This is of course not that urgent :-)

Thanks for the great work!!!

Zero Division Error?

I have been using the add-on for my projects.
Thanks a lot Rob for sharing it with the community.
In an attempt to import kml file for Buckeye, Az. I received this message.
Can you please help me out with this?
Could it be due to kml file because the boundaries doesn't seem appropriate.
I will add the json and kml file.
Thank you !!

Issue with markers on KML files containing multi geometry data in V1.2

Hi Rob, I can confirm that the import of KML with multi geometry data now works in V1.2! Brilliant! Important remark is to uncheck "follow terrain" option. Also the terrain information works. So no second json file with manual terrain information needed. Great ease! And it is possible now to use KML files from geo platforms. Really great!

The only thing I am currently struggling with is, that the markers start and end are not absolute, but somehow relative. They "jump around" in the blender animation and so does the route. In Google Earth Studio all works fine. But I cannot create the animation in blender correctly. Also in the rendering section the animation jumps around. I don't not what the markers are relative to. They do not keep position. Could this be related to the different KML format? Would be great if you could comment on this! I could also provide you with more data, if you think it could be format related. Thank you and best wishes, GS

Camera jitter after import in Blender

After importing the json file, the camera has a position and an Euler rotation at every frame. Looking at the curves in the editor, they seem very smooth. However, the camera itself behaves quite shaky in Blender, and objects placed in the 3D environment consequently bounce around a bit against the image background.

My guess is, this is a blender issue - somehow the "every frame is a key frame" leads to a loss in precision when pointing the camera and consequently to the shakiness.

Exporting KML

Everything done as given in tutorial.
At the point of exporting the kml from inside of Blender I am getting this error.
Thanks in advance

Issue When Using Logarithmic Altitude in GES

Good morning.
Thank you for the great resource, I've managed to use it on a single, short route without any issues.
I've then been trying to do a project with 7 connected routes so I've got an earth studio project with 14 track points (one for the start and end of each route) and 7 KML files (one for each route) but when I import any one of the routes into Blender it's placing the curve at some -264km on the Z axis.
(I'm not using "Follow Terrain" yet, hopefully that'll follow later)
Also, if I import a route that starts at anything but the first track point in the file once I've fixed the issue with the Z positioning it's still placed at some incorrect position on the XY plane.
I'm working in 4k so the whole project is over 8GB. Do you have any suggestions for how I could go about debugging the issue or common mistakes I may be making?
Many Thanks
Simon

Points floating in space on long tracks

In Google Earth Studio, I have a detailed track that was created during a long trail run. As the track gets farther from the start, the points can end up floating in space. The track points in GES don't seem to help. Looking at the import into Blender, the points on the track aren't contained within the track point square.

I attached the KML track: activity_8452070996.zip. The route goes along the edge of a canyon overlooking Horseshoe Bend. In GES, I see the tracks following along the cliff edge but even with track points, in Blender the route goes well into the canyon itself. When I fly around it, I see that it's not just that the x, y are wrong but the z is too high and the points are hovering over the ground level.

Do you have any insight into what might be going on or suggestions to change it? I can try to brush up on my trigonometry to see if I can make a fix, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

KML import not working

Hi Rob,

great tool and tutorial! Many thanks for creating it. I was following all steps as described. Import of the images works well (in the beginning I forgot to set the start market). But I do not manage to import a KML. It creates the path item, but does not display the 3D route on the screen.

Any specific requirements to the KML file? I tried several ways: converted from existing GPX, creation via Google Earth (like described in the tutorial), nothing seems to work. Any hint would be highly appreciated!!

Thank you!!

GS

Blender Animation is 1 Frame Short

If I have a GES project with a duration of 1440 it exports 1441 frames because it's zero-indexed but the Blender project is then setup with only 1440 frames in the animation as it is one-indexed.
Manually adjusting the end frame to 1441 includes the extra image.

Error while loading KML file

Hi Rob,

I've been trying to use EarthStudioTools for a few days now but I keep struggling with an error when I attempt to load the KML file. I think I stick to your 3 parts youtube tutorials but after rendering the frames and creating the trackpoints, I always get that same error when I try to load the KML in Blender. If you could help me with that issue it would be fantastic.

Best regards,

Louis

Points dropped during import

In Google Earth Studio, I have a detailed track that was created during a long trail run. It appears as if a lot of the points are getting removed during the import into Blender. I can see them in GES and in the KML, but even though I have Point Reduction set to 0, most of the points don't make it to Blender. It doesn't trim to some fixed limit rather it looks like it is dropping 4-5 points for every one that it imports and this happens throughout the route.

I've tried Nurbs & Poly, I've set the Point Reduction to 0, and added some debugging statements in the import script to see if maybe some precision loss was causing multiple points to appear as one, but so far I haven't found any cause or solution.

Do you have any insight into what might be going on or suggestions to change it?

Attached a zipped KML if that will help

problems kml files rustas without sense

Hi, I'm new to this, I'm Spanish and I'm writing this translated text. I have done many tests but when trying to import the KML file in blender I get misconfigured, the first point is fine but the following points are very high, even setting the match proximity to 1000 m I can't get it to work well, I have even cut the routes in case they were very long, it has only worked well for me in a test starting the animation in GES in the first frame seeing the first point of the route and the last frame the last point of the route, but when doing the route that I want it does not work out, even putting in the animation in the GES in the first frame where the route begins.
I still want something that is impossible since the animation begins by seeing the entire country, then it takes a flight to the first point of the route, and that is where my route would have to start.
I have set many breadcrumbs or tracking points in GES. I'm not desperate I've been trying for more than 2 weeks.
If someone wants to see my files to see where I have the problem I will be happy to send them to you.
Thank you.

blender scale not match

When import camera into Blender , seems scene unit not match , camera seems too low while field of view is not the same in Google earth studio. How can I fix this?

Problems with macroscopic projects

Hello everybody! What a great project this is. I'm so thankful for your effort to make Google Earth animation available to people who don't have access to After Effects.

Here's my problem:
I have absolutely no trouble working with projects with the camera close to the ground, i.e. you can see individual buildings and streets and the KML path runs through the city with the camera flying 500 metres above.
However, for my current project, I'd like to show a much more macroscopic view, in this case a large part of Australia. The camera is 2000 kilometres above the ground. In this project, an imported KML route does not show in Blender. I have played around a lot with the bevel depth values (I thought I'd just have to make the route a lot thicker which seemed logical) but I can't make it work.

Now the general question is: is this simply not possible due to limitations in how Blender works or am I just doing something wrong?

Test project attached.
