I vote yes on this. This definitely deserves a discussion. I would say the core codes, e.g., pymatgen, fireworks and atomate, should be Py2 and 3. But there is no reason for maggma to support Py2 if it is going to make things complicated.

Furthermore, I recommend that MP in general move towards using conda as the default setup and virtual env for all the internal infrastructure. That way, you have better control over the setups and you can share the same setup with other developers taking over or building on your code.

I spoke with @matk86 and others, and I also vote for maggma being py3-only. It's a new project, and it can be run in an isolated environment if needed.

I am not sure exactly what maggma is really about (I just had strong opinions on its naming) but Py3 sounds good to me
