Tweetz

After 13 years, the end has come. Twitter has disabled all third party applications including my inconsequential little application. 😥 It was fun while it lasted. Thanks to everyone who supported me over the years.

Tweetz is a Windows 10 desktop twitter client. It's minimal design mimics gadget style applications. I use it to monitor current events and announcements in the developer community.

Hyperlinks don't work until application has focus

Hyperlinks not working until the application has focus appears to be a WPF hyperlink issue. It probably will require writing a user control to fix.

Error: The Remote Server Returned an Error (429) Too Many Requests

I get this message a lot during the day.

Is this something with Tweetz or are we running into a API Limit?

Add option to hide title bar

Add an option to hide the title bar. This can be accomplished by setting WindowStyle=None. However, there's a bug in Windows 10 where the top of the title bar frame still shows when setting the window style to None. So I'll also have to set ResizeMode=None when this option is selected.

This will also help with the issue of the inactive title bar being white.

tweetz 2.x regularly becomes unresponsive

Ever since the 2.0 update tweetz has been exhibiting an issue where if I leave it unattended for a minute or so, it becomes unresponsive.

The window becomes smaller and gets a white line through it, scrolling doesn't work and the buttons don't respond. A little while later I can click anywhere in the window and it'll go entirely white, but the standard Windows "This program is not responding" dialog will appear. Selecting "Try to restore the app" actually works, but after that it's only a matter of minutes before it happens again.

Installing in C:\Programs Folders will cause the program to crash.

Remedy: Install using the recommended option (Install for me only).

Based on feedback from a reviewer:

Clicking on profile should display in program, not go to the profile page in the browser.

Block image feature

Provide way to block particular images.

Reason: some twitter profiles always have the same image in their tweet bodies, usually for branding purposes.

1: I liked the profile image being next to the username while the tweet was in a new 'row' that fit neatly under the profile image and username. If I could get that formatting back, I'd appreciate it.

2: I'm having small issues noticing when one tweet ends and the next begins (I have the profile images turned off).

3: Only problem I have with the 2.1.1 version is the icon staying in the taskbar. the old version,1.x, would stay in the system tray (near the clock) and not be a 'program running in the taskbar'. Unless I missed an option, how do I add it to the system tray?

I know this is a side project, kind of hobby, and it functions as is. so I'm not terribly worried about it being added as an option.

MBAM claims tweetz.core.exe periodically attempting to connect to Malicious Website

MBAM claims tweetz.core.exe is periodically attempting to connect to "Malicious Website" rb.gy, ip address 76.223.86.4 port 443. I don't know what their criteria are for determining what sites are malicious. The operation of the program does not seem to be affected by blocking this connection.

I am using Tweetz v 2.6.1 because I don't like the line spacing of the newer versions.

Can Tweet font be changed?

I know that its possible to change the font size used to render tweets, but is it possible to change the actual font itself, e.g. from Segoe UI to Tahoma?

Medias opens on wrong screen

Hi, and thank you for all your work.

I installed the 2.2.3 version today (from 2.1.0), and when I click to open medias, they opened on my first screen, even if tweetz is on the second screen (on the right of the first one if that matters).
That was not the case before.
Can you put it back on the same screen ? Or maybe an option to choose the screen ?

Make the new look optional

It would be nice to have the option to change the links, hashtags and mentions back to blue.

Adjusting window size

It seems that it is now possible to change the window size only from bottom right corner.

This is a problem if you can´t reach that corner with your mouse. This happens regularly when i dock my laptop and no longer use laptop´s display. Resolution changes so that tweetz-window overlaps my main display that is connected to the docking station. Of course, i can restart my computer to get the correct size back but it would be easier to be able to just resize tweetz-window - from upper left corner perhaps...?

New Settings: Alway on top & Close to tray

Hi Mike, it would be great to see Alway on top feature & Close to tray options in future releases.

Of course Close to tray will need to implement try icon Right-click -> Exit functions. The same can be applied to Alway on top option.

Any Suggestion how to contribute to this project?

Tweetz sometimes pulling the wrong profile picture... and when it's wrong, it's always the same one!

I'm using Tweetz 2.9.4, and I'm noticing that there's one account that I follow (@HemantMehta) whose profile picture seems to get stuck in some Tweetz cache, such that it shows up on random tweets from various other people. It's not the same people, and it's not consistent from minute to minute. A new tweet will come in, and a tweet that had Hemant's photo on it will have disappeared and be replaced by the proper picture. Another tweet will come in, and that old tweet will have Hemant's photo on it again. I haven't noticed this problem with any other photos, just this one. His photo isn't appearing on every tweet at once, just random ones. Right now, if I scroll through the first 12 tweets, his picture is on two of them, even though none of the 12 most recent posts are his.

Here are a bunch of examples in screenshot form. I snapped all of these within a span of 2-3 minutes and put them into a single image. You'll notice that the tweet furthest to the right is the same as the one in the middle, but it's one minute later. Another couple minute later, that same tweet was showing Hemant's photo again, not Brian's.

I've noticed this problem for the last few weeks (always specifically with Hemant's photo appearing in place of other Twitter profile pictures). I can't say for sure that it started with 2.9.4, but if not, it started with a recent version.

In the compose tweet dialog, autocomplete @usernames as user types.

What, if any, account management features should be added to Tweetz?

Pen input support

I use my PC primarily using a tablet & pen. In most apps like Chrome and Discord, I am able to drag the pen to scroll, however Tweetz treats it as a click.

It would be really helpful if pen scrolling could be implemented. I don't have any experience with C# unfortunately, but I'd be willing to help with testing,

Profile Images can be mismatched

After a long runtime without restarting the application, I noticed that tweets can be rendered with an incorrect profile image. The profile images are from other users for which you have tweets from, and I have not detected a specific pattern to the mismatch. Having used Tweetz since the re-write I have not seen this before last week, where I noticed it twice (resolved via restart of the application).

What changed? My computer now sleeps/wakes properly. Previously, the PC would crash on resume, which has finally been resolved, so I shutdown more frequently and/or disallowed sleep. This may be a red herring, or relevant to the underlying issue.

I'd love to be able to have the opportunity to review the source and diagnose it myself, but figured I'd log the issue first and get to looking at it if/when I get some time. Thanks for an awesome and unobtrusive tweet viewer!

Menu takes up 2 rows since 2.9.1

Since upgrading Tweetz to v2.9.1 the menu at the top now takes up 2 rows instead of 1, as it did previously. 2.9.2 does the same. The Tweetz window width is set to 303. Screen shot attached.

B&W option

Hi, love the product!
I have a totally black & white desktop (except Tweetz) and would love

Allow a different media player to be used

I just downloaded Tweetz, and I love how it looks and feels. Definitely would want to use it over the web Twitter client.

However, when I try to play a video in the app, I get the following message:

My install of Windows doesn't appear to have Windows Media Player installed.
Is it possible to use an open source media player like VLC or mpv instead?

Feature request : zoom and pan in the picture viewer

Add zoom and pan features in the picture viewer for images of interest.

Profile images don't show up randomly.

request: Smooth Scrolling

Tweetz's scrolling right now is extremely jerky in behavior - it seems to scroll in 150-pixel "chunks" at a time rather than scrolling pixel-by-pixel like most things do nowadays (either that or they go line-by-line, but there really aren't consistent "lines" to work with here). Is this something that can be implemented?

(I've literally never done anything with C#, or I'd look into it...)

Tweetz was working fine till I rebooted the system. After reboot, I am not able to view any tweets (including screenshot) :

Custom color of user tweets (user request)

It would be nice if we can change the red colors when we tweet or receive a tweet with a color picker or easy part, add a setting in the file like:

Screen tearing when moving mouse pointer over controls

When moving the mouse pointer over controls, they disform; hyperlinks become unreadable (see screenshot).

Perhaps my graphics drivers are the issue? I've got an AMD RX5700XT with the latest drivers (Radeon 20.2.2).

symbols dont get rendered properly

It seems that the symbols arent getting rendered properly and they display as rectangles. Im not sure but it may be that i changed my windows font via winaero tweaker..

Not sure what this means just yet. Looking for suggestions on how the UI should work.

Multiple Instances issue

Thank you for your work. A previous version of your app allowed me to have 3 separate instances running all logged into 3 separate Twitter accounts. When you restarted if I had a shortcut in the startup folder they would all login to the three separate accounts correctly.
I am currently using 2.2.1 and originally made 3 separate folders with the self contained build with shortcuts to each folder renamed for each twitter account. Currently while I can have 3 different instances running from one exe if I restart they are all logged into one Twitter account and only one instance starts.
Is this something that could be looked at or am I doing something wrong?

I miss this feature (showing the full link on mouseover) from the old client, is it possible to add it to the 2.0 version?

Image viewer shows gray box instead of image from tweet

Sometimes when I click on an image in Tweetz the viewer box that pops up shows a gray box instead of the image from the tweet. Screenshot attached. Using Tweetz v2021.3
