It is literally just how it is.
It was a design decision made early to only support 4:3, and that's what I'm going with because I'm not going to go back and essentially modify the entire codebase just for widescreen support.
4:3 looks cool anyway.

Imagine complaining about a game that was made completely for free in someone's spare time.
And which is open source so you can make your own modifications.

Plus, only 4:3 resolution increases the number of devices supported, cause I don't know, you might wanna run it on an old Windows XP PC with a 4:3 screen?

It's literally just diet NullpoMino.
What's the point?

This isn't as simple as you may think, admittedly because of poor programming and design choices early in the game's lifetime. Intentionally, we chose the path of making the game run in a 480p box that could be moved and scaled at will because it made it easier during development and mod creation to position UI elements. This had the side effect, of course, of completely eliminating the possibility of alternate resolutions without massive rework.
In short, no, I unfortunately don't think this issue can be fixed without a large amount of time and effort because of the way the graphics code is structured. Sorry.

Locking, as there is a clear lack of civil discussion.
