In general, styling consistently across browsers can be tricky. Opacity / transparency, though, is pretty straight-forward. It'll just take some more lines in the CSS.

Yes, the transparency bug was fixed earlier. However, I just checked in IE8 and it looks like there was a new bug relating to fixed positioning. I changed it to position absolutely in IE8 and under, which should fix the bug.
