Your format is nicer than what I get with pandoc README.md -o README.pdf. I get the extra large LaTeX-style margins. I find them unusable (and ugly).

That's why I am interested in seeing what you use :)

You can fix the margin issue easily. E.g.

pandoc --toc -s -V fontsize=12pt -V geometry:margin=1in -V documentclass:article README.md -o README.md.pdf

But problem is that pandoc refuses to automatically wrap long lines. The solution on SO is to not have lines so long. Then they wouldn't look so much like "one-liners" anymore. I'm using the pdf export utility in my markdown editor (Mou). Closing this because I don't see a better way to do this with pandoc.
