can't seem to change layout

OS = voidlinux
I compiled awesome's master branch from git using xbps-src

Background =
I'm a bit new to awesome so if there is something I'm misunderstanding about this I apologize.
I found this config when I looked at r/awesomewm and decided to give it a try.

I don't really need all the default layouts, so I removed the ones I don't use from the config/vars.lua and changed the order,
but when I reload awesome the layout order did not change and all the default layouts persist.

Attempt to index a nil value 'promptbox'

The promptbox is not defined in the widgets branch
