gnomenu's Issues

Update to Gnome 3.18

We have a new gnome versiona at last, but it's not compatible with 3.18. Can you update this extrension please?

Unable to disable F2 shortcut

I use Gnomenu with Dast to panel extension. Pressing F2 opens "Menu" and there is no setting in preferences of Gnomenu to disable such a behaviour.

This bug steals the key bindings from other apps like gnome-terminal (F2 is save in Midnight Commander editor and others).

More immediate feedback

It takes some time to display the menu after F2 has been pressed. It seems that the CPU (gnome-shell process) is quite busy when repeatedly opening and closing the menu -- perhaps populating the lists takes some time.

My primary use case is to open the menu, then type the name of the application I want to start. In the vast majority of cases, I don't care about the categories or the "most recently used applications".

Is it possible to present an empty menu right away, and filling it later (perhaps asynchronously), or to otherwise accelerate the opening process?

Can't make the extension work on gnome 3.6.2/Fedora 18

Hi,
I can't install gno-menu under F18+3.6.2, although it used to work in the past. Neither from the extension page nor unpacking the git zipfile to .local/share/gnome-shell/extensions. I don't know where to look for any additional hints to solve the issue.
Best,
Oscar

Changing FAVORITES

There is no option to change the "favorites" programs or am I missing something?
Ok! Found. Need to go to the "Windows" key but this should be clear somewhere.

Update to Gnome 3.20

Hi guys, one month ago gnome 3.20 was released, now it come to Arch Linux, and some gnome extrensions are outdated, gnomenu include.

Can you update it please?

Searchbar: look at "exec" and "keywords" desktop fields

Currently Gno-Menu doesn't seem to find apps that don't have their display name match their executable name. An example would be "Alacarte", which is only found by typing "Main Menu". So, it would be good if the search could look at the "exec" line.

Secondly, it would be great if Gno-Menu looked at the "Keywords" field as well. The whole idea behind the "Keywords" entry is to give a place for additional metadata to facilitate searching. Here is the Gnome reference document on the Desktop Entry Specification: https://developer.gnome.org/desktop-entry-spec/

Show favorites at start.

It would be mighty nice if there were an option to display favorites at start alongside the frequent and all options. Obviously there should also be a button with Frequent and All in the top of the menu to the left.

Conflict between Gnomenu and frippery move clock

Enabeling Gnomenu or restaring the gnome shell causes the clock to be moved to its original place in the middle.
Toggeling frippery move clock on and off moves clock back to the ntended location.
This issue also reproducable on a second machine.

I made a short video illustrating the problem (sorry for the flickering, seems to be a bug in OBS):

Thank you in advance for looking at this issue

Recommendation: reduce AppGrid Columns to 3

With AppGrid Columns set at 5 it really chops a lot of Application names in an unusable way, in my opinion. For example, all LibreOffice apps are listed as "LibreOffi..." Yes, at the bottom there is the full name and description (great feature BTW), but it would be better, in my opinion, to reduce the number of columns to 3 and then increase the width of the gnomenu-application-grid-button and gnomenu-application-grid-button-label in the css files.

Allow adding/removing of favorites

Hi, enhancement idea:

Allow adding/removing of apps to the favorites list. I've seen this implemented in other apps using a right click, a submenu would also work.

Submenus?

I can't see my submenus, only menus are working

Font Color

I had to change the css for the font color to black using the large menu.

Option to show Recent/Webmarks by default on menu open

I Like this menu very much. I simplify it quite a bit however, with the settings. The 2 main options that I love about this menu are adding functionality that is not there yet in vanilla gnome-shell, which in my view is the list of recently opened items and the bookmark access. Therefore I would love to see an option to choose what the menu opens with. Choosing between the Aplications view, the Recent view or the Bookmarks view. Maybe even separate (optional) shortcuts for opening the menu with different views shown on opening of the menu. Shortcuts aside, just being able to see Recent on opening the menu would be great.
Is anyone else interested in this functionality, is this something that is planned?

Starting application on touch screen does not work

Hi,

On a touch-enabled laptop, applications can not be started from gnomenu using a touch, touch is handled as mouse over. The only way to start an application is to type a filter text, and press enter, which starts the first application.

Super (Window) key as menu button shortcut

I've tried <Super>, <Super_L> but cannot map the Windows key as the keyboard shortcut (so it works like the Windows Start Menu). Is this possible?

I'm using GNOME 3.16 on a nightly build of Ubuntu GNOME 15.10.

Script Files

Hey,

wouldn't it be nice to structure the script files a little bit more. I thought of putting the js-files except for the boilerplate files in a special folder. Also I saw that most of the program logic is written inside the main js-files. Is it possible to split it in more files?

Sincerely,
AxP

Menu focus

Have a problem:
menu passes focus to nearby active application shortcut when mouse is occasionally moved over it, loosing search query and its results.
I use touchpad, so it happens quite often.

Could you make menu remain focused when clicked on, no matter where mouse goes afterwards?

Spanish translation

I have GnoMenu isntalled in several computers, but it doesn't work if the session language is set to Spanish.

The error shown by the "looking glass" utility is:

"Error: Failed to convert UTF-8 string to JS string: There is a not valid byte sequence in the input of the conversion"

(The output of the error may vary, because it was shown in Spanish, so I translated it to English).

If you say me how to do that, I can translate the extension for you.

Best regards

Shortcuts and Categories Scrollbars not showing

I dug around in the code, and a lot of logic is already in place for Shortcuts and Categories Scrollbars. However, they don't show when needed. I haven't sorted out how the logic woks for showing / hiding the Application scrollbars (the only scrollbars that currently seem to work), but am hoping that similar logic can be applied to the Shortcuts and Categories scrollbars and it is just a "bug" that is preventing them from showing right now.

Gno menu error

Hello , thank you for this extension :) .

I am using ubuntu gnome 15.10 . with gnome shell 3.16
Please help me or give me an old versión of gno menu if you can. Regards

Change language

Hello,
I didn't find an option to change the language of this extension. So how to do that?
The whole extension is completly in english, but the system is german and there are localization files for it in the repo.

Couple of bug reports and suggestions

Hello, thank you guys for this awesome extension. Just want to report a few bugs and suggest some improvements:

Bugs

  • If I set the icon size for List view of application to be larger than 24, the icon is distorted.
  • The text and icon in the search bar is invisible.
  • The Logout and Lock power buttons look stretched.
I'm using Numix Frost gnome shell theme: https://github.com/lots0logs/Numix-Frost . This theme has some compatibility issues with gnome shell 3.16 but not sure if that's the reason why I'm seeing these bugs.

Below is the image describing the bugs:

Suggestions

  • Add the option to disable hovering effect on panel menu, right now it is too sensitive and sometimes the menu is shown unintentionally.
  • Add the option to disable the bold font of applications and categories. IMO, the only things that should be bold by default is the group labels and selected application's label.
  • Add the option to add the down arrow to the end of the menu so it looks consistent.
  • Make the menu button shortcut key a toggle key, i.e. pressing it should toggle the menu, not just show it.

Thanks for consideration.

Locale Ids

Hey,

I started yesterday with creating german locales for the menu and I have some questions.

  1. Aren't the message ids a little bit long? Wouldn't it be better to use real ids instead of the en_US sentences? For example "<\b>Menu Settings".
  2. I think there are some ids missing, right?

Gnome-Control-Center: show sub-modules

I don't know that all GCC items want to be piled in the "All Applications", but it seems certain key ones should be findable from a search, eg. Printers and Displays (Network and Sound are "key" but ok to not find from menu since findable from panel indicators?) Right now Gnome-Shell (3.18 at least) does something fancy to show the GCC modules as sub items, so a search for "Printers" works there.

If this is not easily done since G-S does "its own custom thing" instead of following the standard /etc/xdg/menus/gnome-applications.menu specification, then it increases the priority of having Gnomenu search the "keywords" list in the .desktop files, so that GCC could use keywords such as "Printer", "Display", and "Network" and still be found on a search, as reported in issue #27

Suggestion: let users configure the font used

Hello! Thanks for this extension. I like this menu better than the traditional Application Menu extension.
Suggestion: let users configure the font used in the menu (below each application). Mine doesn't look match my theme at all and I would like to change it.

Thanks!

Change Gnomenu theme

No way to change menu opacity or background color? I have a transparent panel, and with black Gnomenu theme this looks ugly.

Feature Request

I really love this extension and been using it for a while now.
I just want to request one small setting change, that we can adjust the number of icons visible at once in grid mode.

Ideas [Fixed the issue so just ideas]

[Fixed issue by restarting shell]

Ideas, presented to fix this issue and other small ones:

  1. Start button sizing & or padding if in the top bar
  2. Themes interface or defaults
  3. Option for start icon on the top, left, right or bottom of gnome's dock

Change shortcut to launch gnomenu

Hi , i have create a pkg for this extension to install into Manjaro linuxas default extension .. Is possible change the default shortcut ? I have try to override via dconf-editor but the schemas not work after fresh install ( run the first itme the iso ) . The key appear after modified into gnomenu ... is only possible via modify the xml schemas ?
<key type="as" name="panel-menu-keyboard-accelerator"> <default>['F2']</default>
Disable the menu button keyboard shortcut

Disable the menu button keyboard shortcut
</key>

Keyboard Navigation: Ability to change focus to Categories or Favorites?

It would be very nice to be able to use a "keyboard only" for Gnomenu use: Defaulting keyboard focus to the App Grid is fine, but it would be nice if a "tab" would toggle focus to the "Categories", and maybe a second "tab" would get over to "Favorites", then a third "tab" would get back to App Grid focus. Not sure if this is possible or not, but would be a "nice to have".
