On the homepage, the sideblock has a really attractive grey overlay and star pattern. Is it possible to have this on the post-lists page too?
It doesn't need to be included upstream, I'd just appreciate instructions on how to achieve this myself.
I love this model. But when I look the blog content, I think it would be better if more space is used to display the content.
hey,
so correct me if im wrong, but it seems like you have some code in the _site/index.html file that is overriding all other code. changing this code is fine, but each time i push the website to amazon s3, jekyll rebuilds the _site folder and i lose all local changes that ive made. maybe i'm missing a way to change these things outside of the index.html file? the first thing is making the posts page link to posts.html rather than taylantatli.github.io/Halve/posts and the second thing is the background home image for block-left of the homepage. hardcoded into index.html is the a href making posts link to this url: taylantatli.github.io/Halve/posts. hardcoded into index.html is also the background homepage image linking to another image on your github site.
when i try to change these two things outside of _site folder, the changes dont apply because _site/index.html is overriding the changes. when i edit index.html then the changes only last for a short amount of time (enough time to push the website live). each time i restart terminal and sublimetext, jekyll has rebuilt index.html to its standard, problematic, overriding mode, which is quite frustrating.
any help would be appreciated.
Here is my website repo: https://github.com/stevennl/stevennl.github.io.
But when I visit https://stevennl.github.io/, the css assets cannot be used.
The outputs of the console:
Mixed Content: The page at 'https://stevennl.github.io/' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure stylesheet 'http://stevennl.github.io/assets/css/main.css'. This request has been blocked; the content must be served over HTTPS.
How to solve this? Thanks.
First, it's a superb theme!
and question: How you got that background twinkling stars animation?
initially i thought of a vector 2px wide white dot and add it as a overlay to current background with repeat turned on and transform it and change it's location on selected keyframes but on your animations
problem with my approach is:
no control over the dots (i really love how decently they mend with bg)
and random actions (which is amazing really)
Superb theme! i loved it !! ๐๐๐
Hi,
Thanks for the great template!
Wondering how to remove the share buttons within posts?
Thanks!
Any suggestion on adding projects in the project page?
Greatly appreciated.
I'm new to github and coding so please forgive me if I am just missing something obvious.
I 'forked' Halve and then changed the name to joshuaTsmith.github.io (for my github page), however, if you go to that page you will see my site has obvious formatting issues.
It looks nothing like what you have displayed. What do I need to do to fix this?

I think the social links on the home page would look better if the button colours didn't alternate. How would it look if only the darker one was used? I think some of them also look out of place on the lighter one.
People go to a blog post to read it not to watch the background picture, the image is just too wide makes it very inconvenient to read.
I love this theme but I'd rather just keep a posts tab that contains both blogs and my projects. I've been trying to remove and comment out some of the css stuff like overlay but I seem to be breaking the site. Help please?
On the projects overlay, long titles extend past the box if viewing on mobile. The same problem probably exists on desktop too but since screens are so much larger, you'd need a bigger title to trigger it.
How could I make the left part narrower? I just want a 1:2 page instead of a 1:1 page.
Hi, loved your theme and decided to use it for my blog. But I'm unable to change the home/landing page where there's an intro of the theme. Can you tell me how to edit it?
Thanks.
Normally I'd just submit a pull request, but since I've already diverged from the project by quite a bit for my own site, I'm just going to drop this here as an improvement snippet. I've greatly improved the appearance, efficiency, and speed of the canvas.js script for the "snowflake" effect on the homepage. The code as it is on master today will add an exponential amount of Dot
objects to the dots.array
array - that causes massive memory and cpu spikes. It also appears the script contains a lot of unused/unreachable code, which I've removed.
I hope this code helps to improve Halve.
$(function() {
'use strict';
var canvas = document.querySelector('canvas'),
context = canvas.getContext('2d'),
color = '#98B232',
count = 250,
flakes = [];
canvas.width = window.innerWidth / 2;
canvas.height = window.innerHeight;
canvas.style.display = 'block';
context.fillStyle = color;
context.lineWidth = 0.1;
context.strokeStyle = color;
for (var i = 0; i < count; i++) {
flakes.push(new Flake());
}
setInterval(animate, 1000 / 30);
function animate () {
context.clearRect(0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height);
for (var flake of flakes) {
flake.draw();
if (flake.y < 0 || flake.y > canvas.height) {
flake.vx = flake.vx;
flake.vy = -flake.vy;
}
else if (flake.x < 0 || flake.x > canvas.width) {
flake.vx = -flake.vx;
flake.vy = flake.vy;
}
flake.x += flake.vx;
flake.y += flake.vy;
}
}
function Flake () {
this.x = Math.random() * canvas.width;
this.y = Math.random() * canvas.height;
this.vx = -.5 + Math.random();
this.vy = -.5 + Math.random();
this.radius = Math.random();
this.draw = function draw () {
context.beginPath();
context.arc(this.x, this.y, this.radius, 0, Math.PI * 2, false);
context.fill();
}
}
});
I looked a lot to change the icon, but there was no image.
where is the image?
I'm trying to figure out how to put the post excerpt in the post itself.
I've currently just added:
<h2>{{ page.excerpt | markdownify | remove: "<p>" | remove: "</p>" }}</h2>
to /_layouts/post.html
just below the title, but I can't figure out how to get it to look good.
I know @TaylanTatli isn't able to patch things upstream right now, but any help making these changes locally would be appreciated.
I am not able to edit about page which is the right part of homepage. Can you please tell me of a way to edit it.
I am using your theme.Thanks for sharing.
A nice addition would be a small sentence that would be defined in _config.yml
that would then be included as a footer at the end of every post.
This is usually seen on most sites. It could be something like Enjoy this post or have something to say? Follow me on Twitter.
Of course it should support markdown. I'll experiment a little soon and try an implementation myself.
italics don't work when using * although the source code assigns correctly with "em"
I'm just starting to use GitHub, and wanted to take the opportunity to explore GitHub Pages and Jekyll to finally put together a personal site (I have designed and managed other sites through Wordpress, Drupal, and other platforms but never got around to my own). Being focused on learning the rest of the stuff, I wasn't too keen on putting a ton of time into crafting a site at the moment, so I figured I would just look for a basic Jekyll template and run with it for now. Then I came across Halve - completely changed things. It's just such a nice creation - far beyond what I could have expected or asked for. Thanks so much to you for Jekyll-ifying and to Vangelis Tzortzis for designing it, and especially to both of you for making it available to others.
Title is self-explanatory. Images on the project overview are very very slow to load. Is there anything that can be done to improve them, or at least something to indicate that they're loading?
Hi, before asking you a question, I would like to say thank you very much for your work with this jekyll theme.
I want to create additional post-like directory, but separate them from the original post and have own menu link.
While googling for such issue, collection is often suggested, but did not work at my first attempt.
I wish to know if it is me or the jekyll halve don't work along with the collection.
Also, if you have any idea with this regard, please share.
Again, thank you very much.
Great work man! Keep it up.
would love to see exciting new themes for jekyll.
I saw your website (http://vangeltzo.com/) is using this template. When I change the url to https://vangeltzo.com/, the website layout will be messed up. Can you add https support for this template?
Is there a script that you're using to minify/compile the JS?
I would like to link post lists directly to html ready to read. How can I do that? Thanks!
would like to keep the big left image in post_list page but remove it in the post page.
Hi! I would like to change the font for words, especially words in posts. Is there a way to only change font for posts? Fine too if you could direct me to the place to change font for all.
Thanks and again it is a beautiful theme.
Hi there - I'm trying to figure out how to add some additional assets to allow for social links not included in the original theme. I added the following line to the social-links.html
file as an example for Linkedin:
{% if site.linkedin %}<li><a class="social-btn" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/{{ site.linkedin }}" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><i class="fa fa-fw fa-linkedin"></i></a></li>{% endif %}
I also included a LinkedIn reference on the _config.yml
file, but I think I'm missing an extra step. Thoughts?
Hi, I would like to make the right block scrollable while the left stays where it is.
Your theme has been listed on http://jekyllthemes.ru/
Hi Taylan,
Thank you very much for building such a beautiful template. I absolutely love it. I am creating my analytics portfolio with your template and have two questions:
When I navigate from my homepage to "posts", the http://... (domain name?) is still yours. The reader can be confused about that. How could I change it to be consistent?
There is a logo on the post list page and links to the original unchanged homepage. How could I delete it or link to my own homepage?
Thanks a lot and I greatly appreciate your help in advance!
Sincerely,
Sili
I was highly unenthusiastic about the jekyll themes till I saw this one! Thanks!
I keep getting this error for different _posts files when I try to build a personal page. please help! I'm very new to all this

It would seem that site.url
is being slightly misused. Ideally, that variable is only used for permalinks and things like RSS feed urls in the <head>
element. site.baseurl
should be used for asset locations, etc. This will allow local serving to mirror production serving without having to modify hosts or implement custom routing. For example:
<a href="{{ site.url }}" class="logo"><img src="{{ site.url }}/images/{{ site.logo }}"></a>
should be
<a href="{{ site.baseurl }}" class="logo"><img src="{{ site.url }}/images/{{ site.logo }}"></a>
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful theme.
I find the layout will be wrong when i use iPhone safari to view my web

Hey, I'm kinda new to Jekyll based pages so i found out that there is no index.html file so how will it work??
I am moving my notes from local PC to blog site. But I found it doesn't support [toc] and math formula. If it is possible to make it?
