Well, the icon isn't being used, so the issue still persists. Until it's fixed I think the issue should stay open.

Happens to me as well
Reproduction (using GDLauncher):

1. Create a new Fabric 1.17.1 instance
2. Add Loading Timer
3. Add Fabric API
4. Add Mod Menu
5. Launch the game
6. Click Mods button
7. Observe icon

If the pack icon is based on non-square image, rendering options may differ on different platforms. The icon in the Modrinth page is also seems like it's "stretched to fit". It's better to convert the source image to square. (128x128px I assume?)

Also author should have notified that there's a placeholder icon in here now, there's no reason to keep this issue open.
