Hello,
I saw the Touchegg project coming up on several (geek)blogs.
But it is not working for me. According to the wiki I had to change the
50-synaptics file or the 51-synaptics-quirck file. I changed both drivers to
evdev instead of synaptic. I restarted my computer, started Touchegg, but the
trackpad is very sensitive and the Touchegg isn't working. When I shutdown I
get a pop-up an unknown application is still running. I'm sure this is
Touchegg. What did I do wrong? Do I need to change other things except for the
configuration files in de X11 folder?
Using Ubuntu 10.10 on a Lenovo X100e
I installed all the dependencies I think, both evdev and utouch.

I have been struggling to get touchegg working for some time now.
Here are the details of my attempted installation:
I have installed the utouch package, as well as xserver-xorg-input-evdev and
xserver-xorg-input-evtouch packages.
Thereafter, I installed touchegg 0.2, and touchegg 0.2 GUI. After editing the
file .../50-synaptics.conf, and rebooting or logging off, All that happens is
that my mouse sensitivity is greatly heightened. I have tried running both the
gui and the non-gui at several points in the above sequence with no success. If
I run touchegg inside the terminal, it registers nothing at all - not a single
gesture.
I am running ubuntu 10.10.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I would be very excited to get this
working!
Thanks in advance

Hi, maybe I don't get how it should work exactly, but in my opinion neither the
the tab & hold nor the pinch feature seems to work on my Macbook Pro.
Normal tab and drag works like a charm (only a bit buggy when using the fourth
finger...)
So can anyone confirm this issue or tell my what I have to change to get it
working, cause its a bit annoying to click for drag and drop and move windows.
Thanks in advance

> What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open /usr/share/touchegg/touchegg.conf
2. Configure one of the gestures to run a desktop-related action, such as
CHANGE_DESKTOP or SHOW_DESKTOP
3. Use the gesture
> What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Touchegg should recognize the gesture and then complete the action, whether
that is changing the desktop or showing it. Instead, the gesture is recognized
but the action never occurs.
> What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Touchegg is version 0.1-1, installed on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick.
> Please provide any additional information below.
I have configured Touchegg to use the evdev driver, rather than synaptics.
I know it is a problem with the desktop-related actions, because Touchegg's
terminal output has shown that it recognizes the gesture I want to configure
(the THREE_FINGER_DRAGs), but no action is run. It's not a problem with that
specific gesture, because it previously ran the action MINIMIZE_WINDOW
successfully.

If you use the three fingers windows drag over your desktop. Its is dragging

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start touchegg application
2. Check for any response in System Monitor while performing gestures.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect some response from the touchegg process when performing gestures
on the synaptic touch pad. However it remains 'sleeping' even when priority is
raised.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Ubuntu 10.10
Please provide any additional information below.
Perhaps this still isn't an implemented function but I think both me and plenty
of others would love to see it happen. Together with compiz it would bring out
the mac in ubuntu! :D

I've compiled the last version of the source (svn) and use touchegg with Apple
Magic Trackpad. It appears I am not able to assign SEND_KEYS actions to tap
gestures. They work instead really good with drag gestures. Is it normal?
Is it possible to make the cursor go faster? In touchegg.conf I have the
following configuration (default).
[ONE_FINGER_DRAG]
action=MOUSE_MOVE
settings=SPEED=10
But mouse movement is slow.
Thanks and great software!

version: touchegg 0.2
I assigned the Close Window action to a drag gesture. If there are multiple
windows opened and I do this gesture, touchegg always closes the first window
correctly.
However, sometimes, it continues after that and closes all active windows on
the desktop in a row.
I think there should be a delay after each "Close Window" action, so
unintendedly repeated actions can be avoided.

Hi
As the title says, I'm trying to install touchegg by compiling from source
(noob here). I first installed the qmake package, but when I try to 'make',
this is the result:
jean@Bingi:~/Programs/touchegg-0.1$ make
g++ -c -pipe -O2 -Wall -W -D_REENTRANT -DQT_NO_DEBUG -DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB

-I/usr/include/qt4/QtGui -I/usr/include/qt4 -Ibuild -o build/Main.o
src/touchegg/Main.cpp

./src/touchegg/util/Include.h:18: fatal error: QApplication: No such file or

compilation terminated.

Is there a dependency that I don't have installed, or will touchegg simply not
work for 64 bit?
Thanks,
Jean

I am on an Asus UL30a which has an Elantech trackpad, on Ubuntu 10.10. I have
tried both using the gui and editing the config file, but I cannot change any
of the default gestures for touchegg. It is set so that when I drag two fingers
right it shows the desktop, but this is extremely annoying because when I'm
using two finger scrolling it often mistakes this for show desktop. Also I
cannot drag and drop without resorting to using the physical buttons below my
trackpad and cannot scroll horizontally. Plus it is a bit difficult to click on
small targets and such because the mouse moves around verily jumpily and
chaotically when I'm trying to make more precise movements. Is there a way to
fix all of these issues? Honestly if not all of them can be fixed, I would
rather just remove touchegg completely, because it doesn't really add any
functionality that I didn't already have before, and that worked better. The
problem is that when I uninstall it, I lose all trackpad gestures except for
basic movement and single finger left-clicking. Also if I go into
System>Preferences>Mouse, there is no longer any trackpad tab, as if it's not
even recognized any more at all. My questions are:
a) Can I fix these issues with touchegg?
if not
b)How do I remove touchegg and get everything back to default, the way it was
before?

Hi Jose,
Is it possible to provide a command-line version of touchegg that doesn't
depend on Qt? I myself and probably many others would like to use touchegg's
functionality but aren't using Qt, so a GUI-independent version would be great.
Thanks and best regards,
Olivier.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Pre. install all dependencies and instal touchegg
Configure ../50-synaptics.conf to use "evdev"
1. Configure /usr/share/touchegg/touchegg.conf
2. Test one gesture: 2 finger left drag = minimize window
3. use gesture
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should minimize the window im working on, but it wont. Also with the other
actions.
What version of the product and OS?
Touchegg 0.1 and Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick (64 bit).
Additional info:
Running touchegg from terminal does recongnise some gestures, up to 3 finger
tap (wont see 3finger_drag and up).
I also lost a synaptic/any touchpad feature, double-tap 'n' drag. I cant select
multiple items or select part of a text on the touchpad.

Laptop Asus UL30vt

2. changing the driver to "evdev"
3.

Mouse pointer becomes fast and already working (two touch recognition) stops
working.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
touchegg_0.1-1_i386.deb

Changed the driver back to "synaptics" and the touchpad was back to normal.
I can surely configure the mouse speed, but the problem is that, multitouch is
not working at all in "evdev".

"evdev"

Tengo ciertas dudas, ya que el ratón de Apple también es táctil, y, aunque
en el kernel 35 le añaden un driver, siguen fallando ciertas características.
I have some doubts about this driver, and i don't know if it's working with
Magic Mouse of Apple because it's "touchable" too. The kernel 35 has new
features for this mouse, but not all, and i think that this driver can help.

Hi,
I think it's great that you started this project. Maybe this will mean I can
one day switch from OSX to Linux again. Have you ever looked at the OSX tool
BetterTouchTool? It has loads of very handy gestures and I use it all the time.
Some features it has that I think would be great for touchegg:
- Support for more complex gestures like "tip-tap" (e.g. put two fingers on the
trackpad and tap with a third left or right of it)
- Possibility to configure different gestures for different applications
- Possibility to execute keyboard shortcuts or start programs with gestures
- Graphical user interface.
I know that you are just in the beginnings with touchegg but I really think you
should take a look at BetterTouchTool.
Best regards,
Tobias

hi there
The same problem as Willie. As far as I can tell, I do have a synaptics
touchpad, and when I try to configure the gestures using gpointing-devices
under 64bit Ubuntu 10.10, it does let me do things like circular scrolling, and
edge scrolling (with two fingers as well). I have altered the files like you
suggested and changed the drivers to evdev, but nothing seems to happen upon
loading touchegg.
Is there perhaps interference between the drivers that gpointing-devices is
using, and the evdev one touchegg is using ? For example when I load wicd to
control my wireless card, I cannot use the program until I uninstall
network-manager as there is interference.

Cuando ejecuto touchégg lo unico que dice es VIOLACION DEL SEGMENTO.
tambien cree y edite xorg.conf, dejo mi device:

51-synaptics-quirks.conf 60-magictrackpad.conf
I've pasted the content of "50-synaptics.conf" to xorg.conf (I've read your
wiki and I think this is the right file):
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad catchall"
Driver "evdev"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
EndSection
I've downloaded and compiled touchegg-gui 0.2.
After restart X server and launched the gui, touchegg-gui start but doesn't
work. if I set "show desktop" in the "tap -> three fingers" and tap with three
fingers, I've right mouse button clicked, like before.
Any issue? is my touchpad supported?
Sorry for my english and congratulations for the incredible work you are doing.
Bye

I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my Lenovo Ideapad Z560, whose touchpad
supports multitouch. I downloaded the .deb package from the Downloads tab and
installed it. After doing so, I changed the driver to evdev in
50-synaptics.conf and rebooted. On doing so, my mouse is moving much faster,
but none of the gestures are working. Is there anything else I must do?

In Ubuntu, I can 2 finger scroll and even tap with 3 fingers, to open tab in
browser (but 3 fingers tap works awful, almost impossible to use it).
I read tutorial on this page
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/43097/how-to-get-macbook-style-finger-gestures-on
-ubuntu-linux/
But still doesn't work. The GUI shows up but no functionality works.
I could not get specs about my laptop touchpad, the only thing I get is xinput
--list: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
Is Touchegg supported for my laptop? How to enable it?

Hi.
I'd like to suggest a feature that I think would be great: to be able to use
Compiz plugins as an action. This way, we could for example associate a gesture
with the scale plugin (to mimic Exposé).
Anyway, you've made a great job so far.
Thank you for sharing.
Rgds,
Cristiano

I can't find Touchegg in the menu, or using Alt-F2. I'm not sure if I'm missing
some dependencies, but I installed using the .deb package. I'm currently
running Maverick, and I changed the .xorg file to read evdev. I would really
like to test this out, cause I'm convinced my trackpad is capable of more than
just two finger scroll. Anyways, thanks for the help.

I installed Touchégg from the source after installing all dependencies. After
updating my X config files to use evdev driver and restarting, gestures do not
work. The pointer does not go crazy as before however. If I try to switch to
the synaptic driver with touchégg installed, the trackpad doesn't work at all.
Running touchégg from console returns one line alone:
[1] 2548
Could it be because I have one of those HP ClickPads?
Thanks,
Willie
